I have recently set up a business and whilst ok with most aspects of book-keeping, I just needed a bit of help with some accounting issues, particularly VAT.

This book was definitely worth the money. It is written in plain English (with even a bit of humour along the way), and demonstrates easy to maintain spreadsheets. I know it may not matter to some people, but even the size of the book (about 10"x6") and the fact it is a good quality softback, makes it very easy to read and flick to the relevant pages when a bit of assistance is needed.

All in all; recommended.

Excellent information resource. My main concern with the book was that it does not cover the use of an accounts package, it only uses spreadsheet examples. However, it's still a good information resource if you keep in mind that the VAT rate has changed to 20% since it was printed.

I am starting my own businees and so was looking for a introductory book that would provide some useful tips and guidelines so I can make the right decisions about VAT registering etc. This book did just that. It's perhaps a little too lightweight in places, but a very useful starting point.
