Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Edward Norton has already impressed as an actor; now it's as first-time director of this charmingly inoffensive romantic comedy. On top of that, we can add a musical savvy. Not only does each cut from this album work beautifully to film, it's also been sensibly re-ordered here for easy listening. Five close-miked, upbeat, soul-searching songs (Tom Waits, Peter Salett, Elliott Smith, and Travis Pickle) are a perfect mood setter. Then comes elder statesman Elmer Bernstein (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, The Grifters) with a jazzy touchy-feeliness that promises romance is alive and well somewhere in Hollywood. Piano, brushed drums and bass make up a core lounge-style set, augmented for the really passionate on-screen moments by the occasional orchestral swell. Saved for last is a little pick-you-up with "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)" from Wild Cherry, and "Got To Be Real" (Cheryl Lynn). This is definitely something to cheer away the blues. --Paul Tonks

4.0 out of 5 stars If you love the film you'll love the soundtrack!, 13 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Keeping the Faith (Audio CD)
I watched the movie and found myself humming one line of "Heart of Mine" until I was driven to buy the soundtrack if only to learn the rest of the tune! I have to admit about being a bit sceptical beforehand as I didn't really remember the other songs or the incidental music. I was more than pleasantly surprised. The songs are a nice mix and great individually and the instrumental of a quality to be more than just worth listening too. The soundtrack completely evokes the feelgood feeling of the film and is the perfect Sunday morning CD. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

4.0 out of 5 stars charming!, 18 May 2001
This review is from: Keeping the Faith (Audio CD)
After watching the film i was spellbound! a fantastic romantic comedy unlike any other seen before-the music encaptures this mood, with practically all the music featured on the film being on the soundtrack, truely fantastic slow, soulfull and meaninful tracks. Brilliant.

If you're here, you must have seen the movie and liked the music. So I'll keep it brief and reassure you that, yes, the music in the film was great -- and the cd is worth it. The Peter Salett tracks are definitely the highlight, but the whole album is terrific. Hurrah for Ed Norton!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Best Songs, 5 Jun 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Keeping the Faith (Audio CD)
The best songs on here are the two tunes by Peter Salett (and okay, the Elliott Smith song). I recommend that you go directly to the Peter Salett section and check out his cd "Heart of Mine" - yes named after the song in this movie. Then buy it. You won't be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Jewel, 27 April 2000

As soundtracks go this is a thoughtful collection but the real highlight is Salett's Heart of Mine. Not surprising in some ways - his first CD (I think it's called Paintings of These Days) is superb and worth trying to find. Hope we will be hearing more of him.
