Product Description

Review

This is a clearly-written, practical guide extending to 64 pages, being aimed primarily at the beginner, although the lack of an index means it can be difficult to locate informtaion. It includes coverage on the differenct varieties, which are illustrated in colour, although there is very little informaiton abotu thier genetics. --Practical Reptile Keeping Magazine

Product Description

The Axolotl, although now rarely seen in its native habitat in Mexico, is growing in popularity in the United Kingdom as a pet. Sometimes referred to as the Mexican Walking Fish, the Axolotl is not a fish but an amphibian, a salamander. It also contains everything you need to know from setting up your tank to choosing and keeping Axolotls.

I found this book really useful for practical advice on how to keep happy and healthy axolotls. It's not a scientific treatise, it's not a research piece, it's a straight forward guide that records the experience of someone who clearly keeps very healthy animals indeed and is very enthusiastic about their care. The photos really do say it all - all of the axolotls have lovely healthy gills and strong limbs (which is very rare with youngsters - I've seen ones on sale with only one leg.) The section on tank setup and transportation was particularly handy for anyone who might ever need to move their pet without causing too much stress.

I'll be taking some of this advice with my axolotl, including getting him/her (I'm not sure which it is!) a friend to live with!

A pleasure to read... 31 July 2009
By DD
Format:Hardcover
Many thanks to the author, Linda Adkins, for this well written and informative book about axolotls, such a book has been long overdue. It contains a wealth of information for those new to keeping these fantastic creatures and a brilliant ground-breaking chapter on breeding for those with more experience. The information contained within this book is far superior to the arrogant bile spouted on particular caudata forums, which have an unfortunate habit of bringing those with true and informed interest in the hobby into disrepute.
I eagerly look forward to any future publications by this author.
