Product Description

A resounding success, this Thames comedy is set in the delightfully chaotic home of Dudley and Muriel Rush, whose daughters, Jacqui and Susan, satisfy a hankering for freedom by moving into the family s vacant basement fl at. Dudley is a gifted cartoonist but an inveterate procrastinator with a fondness for practical jokes, who finds it hard to concentrate amid an ever-increasing number of distractions to the despair of his long-suffering agent, Duncan. But at least he can still keep an eye on his wayward daughters, and their visitors... Starring Stacy Dorning (Black Beauty) and Pauline Yates (The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin), Keep It in the Family was created by sitcom veteran Brian Cooke (Man About the House, George and Mildred). This complete second series features guest turns from Barbara Flynn, Garfield Morgan, Burt Kwouk and Norman Mitchell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Premium family comedy 5 April 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is one of my favourite comedy shows of all time. An excellent cast, coupled with faultless scripts make this a gem. Robert Gillespie plays freelance animator Dudley, drawing a cartoon strip Barney the Bionic Bulldog. His carefree attitude to work drives his long-suffering editor to distraction, who continually has to be pacified by Dudley's wife Muriel, played by Pauline Yates. Adding to this delighfully chaotic household are their two daughters, living in the downstairs basement flat. Thanks to Dudley's procrastination, the door is opened for endless practical jokes and general mayhem. Very cleverly written by Brian Cooke, it is one of those shows that leave you wanting more, long after the closing credits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first. 4 Mar 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
We campaigned for years to have this programme released on DVD. Hundreds of letters and emails were sent and even a petition (with hundreds of signatures) finally got this fabulous programme onto DVD and back into our homes where it belongs. Series one was excellent but this is even better. The actors are more familar with their characters, and their performances show it. The individual episodes are funnier than series one as well, which comes from Brian Cookes excellent grasp of these wonderful characters.

For those of you that can't remember, this series is the one with the famous Chinese Take away episode. The one where Dudley convinces Duncan's girlfriend that he is in love with a duck. One of the most memorable scenes in a series that is packed with excellent one liners and comic situations.

Perfect performance as always from Robert Gillespie and wonderful writing. This is the kind of comedy that makes you long for the eighties. A much simpler time when comedy didn't have to be cynical or offensive to get a laugh. This is sitcom the way it was meant to be.

This is also the last series that Brian Cooke wrote. The next three series were written by other people. So buy this and treasure it, we will never see it's like again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past 16 July 2013

Very funny, simple, homely comedy. I thought this very funny in my early teens when it was first shown and still find it as funny now. Love it!
