It is an infectious blend of modified rally cars, mud, speed, mud, fearless drivers, mud, spotlights and did we mention the mud? Special Stage Rallies take place on the open road, together with other special closed stages which, as the name might suggest are roads which are not open to the public. Drivers generally win or lose races based on their speeds over the closed stages.
This celebration of rallying looks at the history of the sport in Ireland, and tells the stories of the big names including Eugene Donnelly, Gareth McHale, Kris Meeke, Colm Murphy and Kevin Lynch and many more. Photographs throughout.

This really is a fabulous book, simply great photographs of all the "Hot Tarmac Action" and well written too. Thoroughly recommended.

Disappointing,

Keep Her Flying: Irish Rally GreatsSorry to say, but this was a very disappointing book. Much of the photography, up to the 'nineties' section is black and white, and poor quality and uninformative and uninspired. The text is also uninspiring, more like a series of end-of-season Motoring News / Motorsport News reviews, eg. So-and-so won the next round but Thingy fought back on the following round etc. etc. Not one real driver profile, in fact not many photos of the drivers at all. One photo of Paddy Hopkirk, one photo of Billy Coleman, one photo of Bertie Fisher. What the rest of 'em look like is anybodies guess! Where was all the "craic", where was the fun? And just to make it worse, many of the boring photos (monochrome, full page) are facing full pages of either Brown or Orange paper, with, in too many cases, eight of nine lines of text. Awful!
And a book on this subject could have been so good...

This is such a well put together piece of work, which celebrates not only the rally scene in Irleand, but some of its great drivers. A quality production with lots of very interesting photos, specially the roll scene at the end of the book, excellant! I reccomend thsi book to lovers of the great sport of rally!
