Alan Munroe is a highly respected and experienced diplomat and is recollections about the Middle East are fascinating. However, I am not keen about writing history books in the present tense.

Acutely disappointing. Typical British reserve - unable to say anything of any real interest for fear of upsetting people or betraying (alleged) secrets. Found it difficult to find anything that was remotely interesting.
