i would rate "keep fit" as my third favourite formby film after "trouble brewing" and "come on george."
the story of a shy and rather gormless barber who struggles to impress his lady friend by entering in the local gym exhibition, is neither a new or particularly original one. but in the hands of george formby, it is performed to perfection as the majority of viewers cheer him on in his fight against the villains of the piece and in winning the hand of the girl.
i love the songs in this film, they are some of formby's best. the fight scene is a bit laughable for the wrong reasons as the one boxer is so out of shape, what with him smoking and looking so fat, he couldn't hope to be taken seriously by any gym!

For we Northern folk, this guy is akin to "God"! I live pretty close to the birthplace of this comic "genius", and rate this film as one of his very best. Plenty of chuckles in this one with the ever popular "ukelele breaks" scattered here and there. My dear dad, scolded us kid's with the words " hey up, George is on his uke,keep tha trap's shut", if we dared to mess around infront of the tv. Funnily enough that's what contributed to my lasting joy while watching Formby film's! Sorry to say on a personal note, i can't follow George's mantra of "Keep fit", but i can hold a pint in one hand and ciggy in the other horizontally, oh for a few good minute's!!
