5.0 out of 5 stars SEACAMP vs NEWPORT H2 9 April 2013
By CincyMom - Published on Amazon.com
I was debating between the Newport H2 and the new Seacamp for my almost-three-year-old. He's worn Newports in previous years and we've been pretty happy with them. I went to a local store this morning and tried them both on my toddler in sizes 9, 10, and 11 and found some definite differences:

~The Newport is quite a bit more bulky than the Seacamp. The Newport has a thicker rubber sole that is more rigid than the Seacamp sole (the Seacamp sole is very flexible-- similar to our favorite Pedipeds).

~The rubber toeguard on the Newport is bigger and covers more of the toe. This made a difference in the appropriate size for my toddler. In the Newports I would have gotten a size 10 (we like a little growing room and seemed to need extra room to maneuver his foot in there) but definitely needed a size 9 in the Seacamp (the 10s were huge). More of the toes are visible through the webbing of the Seacamp compared with the Newport and this made a difference in the fit.

~The spaces between the webbing are quite a bit larger in the Seacamp than in the Newport. I like this because it allows more airflow and I'm hoping it will cut down on the odor that we've experienced with Newports in the past. On the flip side, it does seem like the Newports would do a better job keeping out little rocks and mulch. Both are washable, comfortable, and sturdy enough to last all season long... which is why we buy Keens in the first place.

After having my little guy run and jump around the shoe department in both pairs, the Seacamps were the definite winner for us. My little guy had a more natural gate and seemed less encumbered. The store had a very limited color selection, though, so I came right home and ordered them. Happy shoe hunting!

Note on infant size Keens: I would have loved to also buy a pair of Seacamps for my one-year-old, but they aren't available in infant sizes. It turns out, though, that the infant version of the Newport H2 has a lighter sole and is more flexible than the toddler and youth versions... it is more like the Seacamp than the traditional Newports and worked well for my littlest guy.

UPDATE: My now 3-year-old has worn his Seacamps every single day now for over three months. (We spend a little more on summer shoes but only buy one pair.) They've been in and out of the pool, in muddy creeks, at the playground, pounding the pavement... and we both absolutely love them. No blisters, no odor, and they're holding up great! Hey can put them on himself and they stay on his feet. This was a significant purchase for us and one I'd definitely make again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light weight keens 14 May 2013

I decided on the Seacamp keens over the H2 style because the seacamp were lighter weight and had more holes to breath. In the past my son has had 4 pairs of H2 and they all have gotten very stinky and they are very stiff to put on. He loves the Seacamp, they are easier to put on and lighter to walk around in. We've only had them a couple weeks but so far they are no smelly at all. We will from now on be buying this style every summer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware! Narrow foot bed! 2 July 2013
By nwin shopper - Published on Amazon.com
Size Name:38|Verified Purchase
We decided to try out the Seacamp CNX Sandal as it looked like a lighter/more airy sandal version than our past KEEN purchases. This style of KEEN shoe's foot bed was MUCH MORE NARROW than our past purchases of the KEEN H2 style. Buyer beware! These had to be returned and we ended up buying more KEEN H2 for my daughter who has a wide foot. We were disappointed that there wasn't more consistency amongst the KEEN products.

5.0 out of 5 stars best summer shoes/sandals 14 July 2013
By Mommy - Published on Amazon.com
i'm a picky shopper, i buy quality over quantity. i bought the sea camps for my girls (ages 5 & 3 years) after having many different sandals. had the stride rites, saltwaters, and see kai runs which are adorable and great for pictures and church, but not for everyday play. my girls are incredibly active and need a good summer play shoe the last more then just a couple of months or weeks. i have found these fit narrower compared to other keen brand sandals which have worked out great for us. they fit true to size, my girls are in size 12 (regular width) and 8 (regular width) in stride rite shoes and wear the same in the sea camps. very flexible soles and have straps easy enough for my 3 yr old to put on all by herself, because we all know younger siblings force big sister or mom and dad to do their dirty work. i prefer this style over any of the other keen sandals for the simple fact of a sturdy yet incredibly flexible sole and more space for air flow of the sides without compromising quality. i went to go down to rei to try the shoes on in person, we tried the whisper and newports as well, but like i mentioned before these just fit my girls feet much better because of the thinner sole (that also seemed to be more formed fitting) with more air vents then the other models. spend the extra few $$ for the sea camps!
