Biography

King Creosote is still living on the marie celeste that is Crail in north east Fife, and has returned to the good ship Domino for the release of his umpteenth long player Flick the Vs. When asked of his three year mainstream sabbatical, KC had this rather fishy tale to tell...

"If KC rules OK was the sunny and relaxed outcome of spending an afternoon with the Earlies, paddling about in the rock… Read more in Amazon's King Creosote Store

Product Description

Album Description

Kenny Anderson lives and works in the kingdom of Fife, he runs (with some mates) the fence collective, a record company, fanzine publisher and is a live promoter, who turns out dozens of cd albums with artists such as James Yorkston, The Beta Band, KT Tunstall and the Lone Pigeon all passing through their ranks.

His latest album was grown out of a suggestion (on a rainy night at the ICA) of teaming up with label mates the earlies, after 11 days locked in a small studio in manchester KC walked out with this album...

I love this album. I've listened so many times since I bought it (just after it came out - was that about a year ago?) but haven't tired of it at all. Kenny's voice is fantastic - frail and emotive, which suits the mood and sentiment of the songs perfectly. I've seen him live too - every bit as good as on record.

KC Rules!!! 11 Nov 2005
Format:Audio CD
This is a gorgeous album from one of the most talented and original songwriter in the UK at the momment; A vast array of songs flirting with different styles.. all my friends who listened to this album fell for it after 3 songs with the usual question.."who is singing this, this is really great.." even my hip-hop loving friends :*) ..which is an achievement since KC is that new folk sound...
Anyway, it's just great music & songs.. transcends style!

A unique effort 22 Jan 2007
By Donaldo
Format:Audio CD
King Creosote is the cure for people who find singer-songwriters in the mould of James Morrison, Paulo Nutini, Sophie Thom et al just that little bit too shallow. This is not all their fault - they are young and talented - but their lyrics lack eloquence and crucially, experience. Kenny Anderson has both in spades. And as one reviewer has pointed out, he has a wonderfully unique voice.

There are some beautiful songs on this album, and two I'll mention in particular. The first track - Not One Bit Ashamed - is heartbreakingly. It mournful tone catches you from the start, though it's not immediately obvious where the lyrics are heading. It sounds like a list of failures;

"You gave up on Easter, for your vegan chums. It's not good enough, it's not good enough"

"I gave up half of my liver, trying to keep up. It's not good enough, it's not good enough"

And then about two minutes into the song, spoken with frailty;

"I gave up half of my heart, and you gave a half-hearted shrug. It's not good enough, it's good enough"

The second track that stands out for me is the one KT Tunstall does vocals with Kenny on, Locked Together (I think it's this one!). It's wonderfully arranged, and a joy to hear.But it's not all doom and gloom. Much of the rest of the album is jaunty and wryly cheeky.

This album is a rare thing today, when the fashion is for record labels to take young, promising talent and overexpose it before it has had time to mature, here is someone just doing his own thing at his own pace.

King Creosote really delivers the goods on this one.

Far better than Rocket DIY, it occasionally reaches the dizzy heights of folky perfection. Read more
