5.0 out of 5 stars Exhibition catalog of Katsuya Terada 22 July 2013
By Parka - Published on Amazon.com
KATSUYA TERADA 10 TEN is actually the catalog for Terada's solo exhibition of the same name at Kyoto International Manga Museum. The exhibition runs from 16 Mar to 30 Jun 2013.

It's a 328-page paperback with a dust jacket.

The book is small A5 size which is quite a bummer considering many of his works are quite detailed, especially the line art.

As the book title suggest, it collects art works from the past decades. There are illustrations, sketches, comic panels, commission works and other personal doodles. Stuff from his Monkey God series, Marvel fan art or commission work, illustrations for other publications, some rather explicit pin-ups and more.

Majority of the works are printed in grayscale or duotone. Only selected pages are in colours. The book feels like a sketchbook because of the lack of colours, and there are lots of sketches too. I've seen many of his illustrations in colour such as those from his coverage of the Giro d'Italia 2007 cycling competition. Colours would have made the book more awesome, but well, it's a catalog and not too expensive.

While the book is in Japanese, publisher PIE Books has provided English translation on their website for the pages with text (link in comment section).

Great book to check out if you like Katsuya Terada or sketchbooks.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic catalogue of the artist's fantastic body of work. 7 Aug 2013

"Katsuya Terada 10 TEN - 10 Year Retrospective" is the art book released in conjunction with the artist's exhibition held at the Kyoto International Manga Museum from March 16 to June 30th. (To read an article on my visit to the exhibition, please visit my blog via my Amazon profile link.)

The book contains an expansive and comprehensive collection of Terada-san's body of work, running the full gamut from his illustrations for art books, novel covers, character/concept designs for games/films, panels from his comics, doodles and more. There's a whole lot of art work in here that I've never seen before.

This book delivers both quality and quantity in droves and gets my highest recommendations. I only wished it was larger in format ( A4 would be great ), and more of the prints reproduced in full color rather than monochrome. Of course, the price of the book would have been much higher too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ten Years of Terada Terrain 23 Jun 2014
By Corey Lidster - Published on Amazon.com
This is a nice exhibition catalog of the show by the same name, looking back at the last ten years of Terada's career. It is loaded with art executed mostly in digital paint, but also in real paint, and ink. He divided the exhibition, and the book, into two sections -- Gallery and Print. The full-color paintings on the glossy paper represent works created for gallery showings, while the larger section of two-tone art on unfinished paper are his illustrations destined to end up in print, made for print. Unfortunately, this makes up a large percentage of the catalog. I love two-tone art, if that's how it looked in print, but a lot of the print art was created in full-color, and reproduced in a simplified form. I want to see it like it should be seen. Still. it's an interesting book, packed with dozens of illustrations featuring beautiful women in Terada style, as well as the demons and cyborgs and such he does so well. The deluxe hardcover monograph on Terada published by Dark Horse will be out shortly, so unless you are a hardcore fan, you might want to wait for that.

This is an unreal collection of brilliant art. Great variety, yet with a unique style. Buy it. You'll regret not doing so.
5.0 out of 5 stars Exclusive Portfolio. 29 Mar 2014

Mr. Terada deserves a hardcover presentation of his work, however, looking back to his 10 years retrospective as an artist through this beatifully made paperback book is something cool, if its possible to get your hands on.
