Product Description

Katja, like everyone else stuck on the work island they call home, wants to get to the mainland by any means necessary. Shooting her boyfriend and stealing a chemical vial is one way to ensure her safe passage; the only problem is, she's not the only one who wants it, and the freedom it will bring. There's Nikolai the joystick junkie; Aleksakhina, Katja's parole officer; Vladimir Kohl, the small-time chemical dealer, and his boss Szerynski; the rival chemical lord Dracyev, and his lover, Ylena. And there's the Man In Red, ready and waiting for whoever is (un)lucky enough to end up with the vial.

Katja from the Punk Band is Jackie Brown meets the Sex Pistols, a fast-paced industrial crime-thriller that weaves multiple storylines and timeframes, from the author of Pretty Little Things to Fill Up The Void, Nothing Is Inflammable, and I-O.

5.0 out of 5 stars bowled over 12 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
it's an incredible tale, fast paced with no time to take a breath. the 'industrail' in the genre might refer to the steel of every sentence, beautifully constructed and hard as nails. it's poetic in its shap, bright focus and, like one of the characters in the story, you might have to wear special goggles to protect eyes. magnificent in terms of character, setting, plot and emotional involvement.
there's been a lot of talk about the Lisbeth Salander of Larsson's trilogy - much as i loved her, i think i'm going to save myself for Katja and make sure i buy a suit of armour if we ever get a first date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced, punk goodness... 18 April 2010
Format:Paperback
To be honest, I'd never heard of the sub-genre 'industrial crime thriller' before picking up this book. However, having read Katja from the Punk Band, I'm keen to read more from Logan. In fact, he's probably just entered my top five writers with this one book - a feat, indeed!

It's difficult to describe Katja without resorting to visuals - this is a book that reads like a movie. Think RUN LOLA RUN, shot by Tarantino and scripted by William Gibson and you're halfway there. Only, Katja is better than that. Seriously.

Basic story has a rag-tag bunch of interlinked characters trying to hoodwink each other over a vial of narcotics that seemingly buys a ticket off an island somewhere close to Eastern Europe. It's not clear when the book is set, whether in the recent past or near future; Logan's economic narrative and short, sharp use of chapters leaves little room for anything short of the essentials for this caper. Each chapter is written from the perspective of a different, fecked-up character, rinsing out their drug-fuelled paranoia and OCD quirks in a unique and fresh style. And you're always left hanging, always wanting more - Logan's infernal use of cliffhangers making his writing as addictive as the perceived contents of the story's main plot device.

In summary, for a neat slice of punk lit, Logan won't see you wrong. Katja speaks to the disenfranchised; Logan populating her pages with a wonderful menagerie of characters from start to finish. This is a page-turner like none other, a merry-go-round of bizarro that will have your eyes bleed with tiredness rather than put this bad girl down.
