This is the first Katie book that we read. Both my daughter(5) and son(3) loved reading this together. The illustrations are wonderful and the mischievious Katie and her adventures kept their attention. When we visited the National Gallery, they recognized similar impressionist paintings and were happy to find one of the Renoir's shown in the book. We've since purchased more of the Katie books and they've given us a basis for hunting for particular paintings or landmarks. The books are a terrific combination of imagination, fun and education.

This is an excellent series. Katie goes to the art gallery with her granny and while she has a rest, Katie goes exploring. She finds she can go into the paintings and Mayhew manages to bring the art vividly to life for the children reading. This book tells you which paintings the galleries are in and my son was very excited when he went to a gallery recently and saw one of Katie's pictures! Other books look at particular styles of painting and they are all wonderful books which teach without the child feeling preached to. They walk the fine line of being excellent educational resources while also being wonderful stories. Not every author achieves this, but I recommend these books for any parent wishing to introduce great artists to their children in a fun way.

A must if visiting the National Gallery. It made the visit so much more interesting. My grandchildren had great fun finding the pictures they had read about in the book and could discuss what they were looking at.
