Kate Lace joined the army straight from her all-girls school because the ratio of men to women was 500:1. She had to leave the army when she married and started a family and in a brief moment of boredom during the 5 years when she produced 3 children and moved house 6 times, she wrote her first book. This was self-published with a fellow army wife and went on to sell a staggering 16,000 copies. Since then she's carried on with the books but given up getting pregnant and moving house. She has now written 2 non-fiction books, 13 published novels - 7 under the name Kate Lace - and has started the 16th book. Until May 2009 she was the chairman of the Romantic Novelists' Association, a national organisation of writers with a membership of around 700, and she captained the RNA team in University Challenge - the Professionals which got to the Grand Final in 2005. She has also written as Catherine Jones and Annie Jones.
