Biography

Biography by David Jeffries
Kasabian took the British press by storm in the early 2000s by mixing traces of the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and Primal Scream with Oasis-sized confidence and DJ Shadow-influenced electronics. Named after Linda Kasabian, Charles Manson's getaway driver turned state witness, the Leicester-based group also stole a page from the Band by moving into a remote farmhouse to… Read more in Amazon's Kasabian Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

While it's true that the self-titled debut from Kasabian doesn't sound particularly original, that's hardly the point. They can be forgiven because they do it so well. Their influences are obvious throughout Kasabian: "Processed Beats" is the Stone Roses song that never was, while "Reason is Treason" could have driven straight off of Primal Scream's Vanishing Point. Self-professed fans of the afore-mentioned bands, as well as DJ Shadow and Neu!, Kasabian are clearly not afraid of a little electronic knob-twiddling. The result is an album that harkens back to the baggy days of the late 1980s and early 90s, seamlessly switching between bass-heavy anthems ("Club Foot") and blissed-out tracks ("I.D."). And if they occasionally sound a bit like EMF, well, that's no bad thing--it's just proof that they know a thing or two about writing a catchy tune. Kasabian are by no means the first band to merge indie rock with dance floor beats, but they are easily one of the best. --Robert Burrow

Album Description

Honest and real, arrogant and naïve, Kasabian are four lads making music with total disregard for anything else going on and are sure to be the next big thing. Their contemporaries in attitude if not musical style are bands like The Coral and SFA. And in singer Tom and songwriter Serge, Kasabian have not one but two charismatic front men. This, their debut album features the hits "Club Foot" and "L.S.F (Lost Souls Forever)", plus new versions of the limited releases "Processed Beats" and "Reason Is Treason". Produced by Kasabian, mixed by Jim Abiss (The Music, Unkle, DJ Shadow).

I can't say I'd heard about Kasabian until the other day and it got album of the week in a certain daily. I only bought it as it said it was a like the Rolling Stones and Happy Mondays put together. Well, into that musical mixing bowl I would also add a bit of the Stone Roses, Primal Scream and just a touch of Hawkwind's spacey ambience in some of the songs to finish it off. I put the album on not knowing what to expect but was completely immersed within minutes. Angry and energetic, it might give some of the bland bands out there a kick up the proverbial. Considering its a debut album its bloomin' excellent. If you get the cd/dvd album you even get some of the videos to watch to boot. Easily one of the best albums I've heard for a bit and tomorrow I won't hesitate to tell people at work to go out and get it. Just hope they put a few more gigs on now that the albums out.

I've just bought this astonishing album and have had it on repeat on my cd player, now i'm listening to it for the fifth time round and its just gets better and better. They sound like a mix between my favorite 3 bands the happy mondays, the verve and the stone roses ! Kasabian are going to be massive. It is hard to pick out the stand out tracks because every song is a bass ridden masterpiece that makes you want to get up and dance round like Bez ! the album starts with club foot which sounds like a fast paced verve tune, pure quality, then processed beats is like stone roses tune with happy mondays style lyrics, the album just gets better and better !Its very rare to get an album without one or two bad tracks on it, every song on this album is single material, it's a classic, You also get the videos of reason is treason, club foot and l.s.f(lost souls forever) plus the making of the club foot and l.s.f videos on your flipside d.v.d. Go out and buy this album now, You won't believe your ears ! Sorry I can't write anymore, GOT TO GET UP AND DANCE !

Caught these guys at V and wasn't that impressed. Since then I got the album and have been very surprised. Catchy tunes with a slightly different sound -have heard them called the new Oasis but would compare them more to the Mondays or Ian Brown (with better vocals).
Damn good album that gets better with each listen.
