Karl Jenkins has been composing for three decades, but it was his knack for delivering themes for TV commercials in the '80s and '90s that began his rise to wider recognition--Delta Airlines, Cheltenham and Gloucester building society, De Beers and Levi's jeans amongst others--earning him many prestigious music awards. It is perhaps for his Adiemus project for which Karl is best known, having topped both pop and classical charts around the world, its evolving nature giving it universal appeal. In recent years, Jenkins has concentrated on classical works with the Armed Man and Requiem introducing him to yet another audience, topping the classical chart, as well as entering Classic FM's "Hall of Fame" in the top ten for the last two years running as the highest position for a living composer.

Format:Audio CD
As one of the current most popular classical composers, Karl Jenkins' music is now extremely well-known. It is not surprising that this CD contains many of his most recognisable themes and, from his masses, the most popular of selections. Therefore this CD is difficult to fault; it delivers what is expected and the result is a thoroughly enjoyable set of recordings. There are no real surprises here but as a compilation it is thoroughly recommended even if you prefer the complete works that probably reside within your CD collection .

I have been picking up pieces of Jenkins' pieces for a while now but i must say that for anyone new to his work or just interested in hearing some really great music then this album hits the spot. A good collection of many highlights. I recommend it as a great general listening piece and thoroughly worth buying just for adiemus alone! Super!

This CD is perfect, both as an introduction for those who've never heard any Karl Jenkins before, and also as a representative selection of his best work, all on one CD, for those who've become hooked, as I have.
Karl Jenkins' music isn't always easy to listen to on a first hearing, but it grows on you. Having listened to this and other recordings a number of times, I find myself humming his tunes to myself throughout the day.
"The Essential Collection" includes four pieces from "Requiem" and the four most accessible movements of "The Armed Man", together with selections from other works, such as the 1st movement of "Palladio" - which made me go out and get the "Palladio" CD, which is very beautiful.
Three of the pieces included on this CD were used in TV ads and so may already be known to you, even if you think you've never heard anything by Karl Jenkins before.
Definitely "essential" and definitely worth buying.

Excellent mix of Karl Jenkins
This is a terrific CD but a word of warning. If you already have the Armed Man and the Requiem, it does have several tracks on it from them.
