Today I received this karaoke DVD by EMI Gold. This was my first puchase of their attempts at karaoke, I usually buy products from Avid or Sunfly, but there are 24 tracks on this and it looked like good value. I wish I had not bothered and I am trying to return it. I find it unsatisfactory for the following reasons:
* Each track begins with an added voice that you have no control over and this may go on for the first few lines of the song. The voice will reappear in the chorus or at the start of another verse, which is not only off putting but completely unnecessary as the words are on screen anyway. This practice was common with karaoke CD's but for obvious reasons becomes even more intrusively annoying in DVD format.
* You cannot choose to hear the song performed with added voice to learn by, the option does not exist, whereas with say Sunfly or Avid this facility is there.
* The arrangement of the backing is mediocre or plain naff, all instruments are too obviously keyboard/synthesised and do not accurately emulate original versions of the songs.
* The background video is a joke, better have a plain blue screen than this.
* There is insufficient warning for what or when to sing, the words tend to appear just before you need to sing. With all my other karaoke DVD's the words come up a few seconds before and then change colour when they should be sung.
ALTERNATIVES: Do a search for "Rock and Roll" or "Rock 'n Roll" or 50's and choose say Sunfly, Avid or Karaoke Klassics. You will not get 24 tracks, but it is better to have 10 good tracks than 24 terrible tracks.
