Having caught Hed Kandi's spectacular club night in El Paridis in Ibiza this year, I was excited at the prospect of the Ibiza 2010 compilation. Mixed with Hed Kandi's customary selection of Funky house, Back to love tunes and harder dance it produces a more eclectic dance experience. Unfortunately - It is not a consistently great compilation, but CD 2 entitled Saturday Mix is the best by some distance and earns the lions share of the four stars awarded here. It blasts off with Swedish House Mafia's stonking 'One' and continues in a seamless mix incorporating some of the summers biggest dance tracks, including stand out moments like Dennis Ferrer's 'Hey Hey',Carl Kennedy's 'Black Water' and David Guetta's 'Gettin over you.' The hiccup is the slightly incongruent inclusion of 'Chase the sun.'
The selection of tunes on the other two CD's are more perfunctory than spectacular, (Ministry of Sound do much better chill out compilations than the Sunday mix on CD 3)and are not up to the usual high standards of Hed Kandi releases. Though there are a number of decent tracks on both, they remain largely inconsistent affairs - however, the collection is worth the money for CD 2 alone - a blast of Ibiza's summer sun resonates through every track and for anyone who partied in Ibiza this year, it might prove a nostalgic addition to the CD collection.
