Product Description

Product Description
Kamikaze Kakuro is the ultimate challenge for fans of this addictive puzzle. The rules sound simple enough - just fill in the squares with numbers 1-9, so that they add up to the figure at the end of the run without repeating any numbers. But as the true Kakuro fan knows, appearances can be deceptive! This book contains 100 of the most brain-crunching, mind-boggling Kakuro puzzles ever invented. Test your wits against these fiendish puzzles and take on the Kamikaze Kakuro.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this book if you like solving kakuro, 28 Dec 2006
By Magne Oestlyngen - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"Kamikaze Kakuro: The Toughest Challenge Yet!"

The only thing making these puzzles tough, is that it is impossible to find the one, correct solution. About half the puzzles have no unique solution, which quite effectively kills any puzzle solving pleasure.

Apart from this, the puzzles range from easy to intermediate, just like dozens of other books you can get in bookstores and supermarkets.

Avoid.

If you're a beginner, any other book is better for you.
If you're an expert (ie. if you skip the 'Easy' and 'Medium' sections of Kakuro books because they're boring), you should buy "Mensa Kakuro (Official Mensa Puzzle Book)" instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ambiguous Puzzles, 22 Oct 2006
By Richard Norton (Hastings, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
These are original puzzles designed with some flair, but not as tough as the title and intro would suggest.
Sadly, there is a worse problem.
All the Japanese-designed Kakuro I've ever seen in other books and newspapers have one essential characteristic in common - thay always have a single unique solution.
Not in this book. The very first puzzle has 4 (slightly different) solutions, and No. 83 has no less than 31 valid alternatives to the solution published. There are more, all with minor possible variations.
Kakuro-solvers are logic-hounds, and they like to follow the logic trail right up to a successful conclusion. Having the trail peter out in ambiguity is not desirable.
So nice try gentlemen, but no cigar until you tighten up your solution checking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous! Stunning! A real gem!!, 8 May 2006
What a fabulous and well put together masterpiece by those wonderful world-class published authors Lindop and Johnstone. An absolute masterpiece - it must have taken them ages to compile this little gem.
I was particularly enamoured by the introduction - so well written and completely captivating! The author should surely try his hand at fiction writing judging by this piece of craftmanship. Well thought-out, you can tell that this book was slaved over and given the utmost care and consideration. A bestseller without a doubt.
