Product Description

Platform: Xbox 360 | Edition: Standard Edition

Manufacturer's Description

The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times – geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers -- and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges. If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your off-shore bank account.

Tropico 4 expands on the gameplay of the previous game with new political additions – including more superpowers to negotiate with, along with the ability to elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial policies passed. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda! Your political mettle will be thoroughly tested, as new natural disasters will have the populace clamoring for you and your cabinet to help them recover from some of the worst Mother Nature can dish out.

Product Description

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game! 30 May 2012
By csa27
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Standard Edition|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This was my first Tropico game and being a Sims fan, this game ticks all the boxes. There is a lot of choice in what crops you can grow to feed your nation and export, as well as a good variety of other ways to generate wealth for your country (rum distillery, cigar factory etc). Complete control of the island is basically yours and you can play in a variety of different modes (Story, Challenge, Freeplay) depending on what you feel like doing. I never read instructions for how to play games so the tutorials on the game are great and easy to pick up.

The food and raw materials you grow can make or break your little island's economy so finding the right balance and keeping your people from rebelling by giving them different choices of food, entertainment, police/fire presence etc is the fun part! There are challenges/requests from foreign countries and you gain or lose respect with these depending on what you choose to do so adds politics to the mix too. You can also choose to attract tourists to the island and set the island immigration policy as well. There are different factions on the island so making one decision will probably annoy the other so again, finding the balance so you get respect from all the faction leaders is fun to do.

The freeplay option I found to be great as it gives you the option to do whatever you want to do without loads of challenges to complete. In this mode too you can make your people happy one minute and completely change everything which can cause a massive rebellion the next! The secret police option is also great fun. As previous reviewers have said, this game is very addictive!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Sim related games.

Like a lot of other reviews say if you like sim city you'll like this, one piece of advice put the tv on mute as after about ten minutes the sound will do your head in.Overall tropico 4 contains a wide variety of buildings to choose from,I also bought Replay Now: Knights and Merchants (Gold ED 2012) - incl. The Shattered Kingdom and The Peasants Rebellion for the pc which is similiar to tropico but set in medieval times.9/10

4.0 out of 5 stars Tropico 4 Xbox 360 21 Sep 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Standard Edition|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I really like this game after about 15 hours of playing time. It's fairly repetetive in terms of the objectives of each level (generally - establish a strong economy, keep factions happy through various secondary objectives, maintain citizen happiness through developing infrastructure (transport, education, health, science/technology) and manage foreign relations), but it's still great fun developing each different island from scratch. I am a big fan of strategy games and there aren't too many on the 360 of note so I bought Tropico 4 half expecting to be a little disappointed. However, so far I am very happy with my purchase and after owning it for a couple of weeks I am still playing it every day.

You take the role of El Presidente, a dictator that calls all the shots and makes everything on the island happen. It's up to you to either make your people happy or build a large enough army to deal with those rebels! As El Presidente, you are offered tasks from the United States, Great Britain, USSR, China and the Middle East to build up foreign relations that can help you in the game. You are also offered the choice to complete national agendas to make your people happier.

If you liked the Sim City series, you'd definitely be interested in this game. The game is full of humour that will have you laughing if not smiling throughout the mission, especially with Penultimo there by your side. I have heard from others than have played the previous game (Tropico 3) that Tropico 4 is very similar and little has changed. I can't really say anything since this is the first game in the series that I have played and have enjoyed it just as it is.

This game can be very addictive and can eat away your days and nights, making you want to finish it. I do recommend you spread the game out though, as I felt that once I completed the campaign, there really wasn't much else to do. There is a sandbox mode and "god mode" so that you could play your own custom made games, but I just felt they weren't really fun as they weren't exactly goal oriented. The game is very long, so as long as you spread it out (just a bit), then this game can last a very long time. Downloadable content has been released recently, giving you extra missions and content and I'm sure there will be future DLC yet to be released!

This really is a game you should try out. At least try the demo that's available for download on Xbox Live if you're still not confident!

1.0 out of 5 stars Tropico 4 on Xbox, too good to be true. 26 April 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
EDIT: Based on the following review, I have received correspondance from Kalypso with regards to the issue:

Some customers are experiencing issues when trying to load particular savegames of lengthy playsessions but unfortunately, we were unable to reliably reproduce the problem ourselves.

The error should typically affect specific savegames, keeping your overall campaign progress and player statistics intact. You can always restart previously unlocked campaign missions from the "New Game" option in the game's main menu.
The error is most likely caused by the console hardware struggling to process the ammount of data and variables that savegames with big cities and a large population contain.
The only solution to this problem would be to drastically simplify the game resulting in more player limitations, lower population numbers, smaller islands and fewer options to build and shape your cities.

Kalypso Media wishes to apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for the ongoing support.

END

Based on this, there is NO FIX to this issue, and will not be. Please read before purchasing.

I bought this game as I thoroughly enjoy creative gaming. I loved sim city, theme hospital, dungeon keeper etc etc bringing us right up to present day where those sorts of games aren't as frequent as they used to be.

This game's brilliant and for the first couple of hours I knew I'd be spending a hell of a lot of time here but, and I stress, sadly that wasn't the case.

Saves corrupt and the game can't be picked off from where you left off. I bought a brand new copy from here on a year old console, had an amazing couple of hours and when I returned every time I tried to load the save game the system crashed.
