If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your off-shore bank account.

Tropico 4 expands on the gameplay of the previous game with new political additions – including more superpowers to negotiate with, along with the ability to elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial policies passed. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda! Your political mettle will be thoroughly tested, as new natural disasters will have the populace clamoring for you and your cabinet to help them recover from some of the worst Mother Nature can dish out.

Fun:
You take the role of El Presidente, a dictator that calls all the shots and makes everything on the island happen. It's up to you to either make your people happy or build a large enough army to deal with those rebels! As El Presidente, you are offered tasks from the United States, Great Britain, USSR, China and the Middle East to build up foreign relations that can help you in the game. You are also offered the choice to complete national agendas to make your people happier.

If you liked the Sim City series, you'd definitely be interested in this game. The game is full of humour that will have you laughing if not smiling throughout the mission, especially with Penultimo there by your side. I have heard from others than have played the previous game (Tropico 3) that Tropico 4 is very similar and little has changed. I can't really say anything since this is the first game in the series that I have played and have enjoyed it just as it is.

This game can be very addictive and can eat away your days and nights, making you want to finish it. I do recommend you spread the game out though, as I felt that once I completed the campaign, there really wasn't much else to do. There is a sandbox mode and "god mode" so that you could play your own custom made games, but I just felt they weren't really fun as they weren't exactly goal oriented. The game is very long, so as long as you spread it out (just a bit), then this game can last a very long time. Downloadable content has been released recently, giving you extra missions and content and I'm sure there will be future DLC yet to be released!

This really is a game you should try out. At least try the demo that's available for download on Xbox Live if you're still not confident!

Fun:
This was my first Tropico game and being a Sims fan, this game ticks all the boxes. There is a lot of choice in what crops you can grow to feed your nation and export, as well as a good variety of other ways to generate wealth for your country (rum distillery, cigar factory etc). Complete control of the island is basically yours and you can play in a variety of different modes (Story, Challenge, Freeplay) depending on what you feel like doing. I never read instructions for how to play games so the tutorials on the game are great and easy to pick up.

The food and raw materials you grow can make or break your little island's economy so finding the right balance and keeping your people from rebelling by giving them different choices of food, entertainment, police/fire presence etc is the fun part! There are challenges/requests from foreign countries and you gain or lose respect with these depending on what you choose to do so adds politics to the mix too. You can also choose to attract tourists to the island and set the island immigration policy as well. There are different factions on the island so making one decision will probably annoy the other so again, finding the balance so you get respect from all the faction leaders is fun to do.

The freeplay option I found to be great as it gives you the option to do whatever you want to do without loads of challenges to complete. In this mode too you can make your people happy one minute and completely change everything which can cause a massive rebellion the next! The secret police option is also great fun. As previous reviewers have said, this game is very addictive!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Sim related games.

having played both tropico 3 and tropico 4, i can honestly say that tropico 4 is much better. a long story driven campaign, a very good sandbox mode, 5 challenges. great download content available from xbox live. good graphics. there are many many improvements in gameplay, that make playing it so much better. i liked it so much i bought all the available download content from xbox live. these include a full expansion pack called modern times, 3 seperate extra missions and 3 new maps to use during sandbox mode. i love this game it is awsome to chill out with. roll on tropico 5.
