    4.0 out of 5 stars As A Stealth Game - It's Pretty Good 3 Dec. 2013
    By Stelin
    Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Okay, here's my view. I love music, all kinds of music. From the occasional bit of jazz and blues to electric pop to the heaviest of thrash metal, there's a place in my library for it all. Some people have just one taste in music, say rap, and if the tune you're listening to isn't rap, then that person is going to say your music is crap. The same is true of games.

I was dissuaded from buying Dark for ages due to the overwhelmingly bad reviews it attracted. Boring graphics, stuttering controls and a broken game play they announced.

I would offer gamers a slightly different view.

Dark appealed to me because of it promised stealth. I love sneaking around in games as a welcome tonic from all the AAA all-action shooters I usually play. Dark does not disappoint in that respect. You watch, wait, plan and execute. If something unexpected happens, you quickly try to hide, readjust, watch, plan and execute again. If you are good enough you'll succeed. If you just wade in and try to bluff your way through the game, you are going to die.....a lot.

The game's pencil-shaded graphics are lovely (in my opinion) and I thought the music in the various sound tracks really added to the suspense.

The difficulty level can be pretty tough, but you will get used to how things work and you need to use your brain a bit. The enemies patrol around using mostly set routines, but this allows you to formulate a plan of attack. Who needs to die first, what will happen if I bump that one off, who will see or hear me do it, do I need and instant kill or can I spend 4-7 seconds sucking all their blood out to give me more power? If you are seen an alarm will be activated and you'll need to either find a place to hide or fight depending on how many enemies arrive as back-up.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Not what you'd expect 12 Jan. 2015

I'm usually not the one to base my opinions off already given impressions and reviews of games, so I bought this game with little to no prejudice, hoping to find something interesting, seeing as I am a big fan of stealth/rogue-based games.

The setting of this game, however, threw me off quite a bit. Not saying that I'm not a vampire-fan, but I feel as if the genre is already milked beyond reasoning.
That being said, I was more curious about the stealth-mechanics and the game design.
Hoping to find something on par with such titles as Hitman, Assassin's Creed, Dishonored or Thief-series, I was rather disappointed after just 20-30 minutes. The game seems to be somehow unfinished - not even unpolished - but bluntly unfinished. I wasn't expecting to be blown away or having to question my choice of games after trying this, but even with a bunch of indie-games of the genre seem to be way ahead of this in terms of design and coding.
Broken designs and unintended glitches made the game more of a hassle to play. Most of the times I found myself not being able to execute a command, such as attack, crouch or run. At one point I was even stuck mid-way to a punch, where I couldn't move at all, all while the enemies kept beating me senseless.
Despite the fact that this game is made with a very limited budget, it's still - to me - an incomplete game. It has a lot of potential and drive, but the execution is just...laughable.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Sneaky 1 Oct. 2014

A game with a good concept. Lots of sneaking about or straight up combat if you prefer. Graphics below par. Auto saves very spaced causing some aggravation and frustration. Budget buy game. Worth what I paid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and frustrating 8 July 2013
    Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
this game has annoyed and disappointed on so many levels. The game is rigid, unwieldy and lacks freedom to choose how to approach a problem. I really thought this could be a goth themed deus ex and something to get into after the delights of dishonoured. so i pre ordered with that excitement in kind. How wrong was I... If you choose to buy then do so with this in mind- you'll spend 30 minutes painstakingly sneaking through a zone, pass through what should be a check point - but isn't, then die. Once- ok. Three times later you'll either throw down the controller, or eventually realise there is no merit to being sneaky (in a sneak game) and the only strategy is to alert the enemy, hide and wait as they walk by you and you take down one by one.

Prior to writing this to tonight I read somewhere that this has been described as a glorified game of packman and I couldn't agree more.

3.0 out of 5 stars mixed bag 12 July 2013
    Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
this game is all about stealth, pure and simple, if you want an action game, then go somewhere else. you will need the ability to think situations through, plan your moves and most of all... A LOT OF PATIENCE, as the game can be unforgiving should you make the wrong decision. this can be both good and bad since although it makes you a better stealth player, you can find yourself restarting areas a lot due to being killed.

the vampiric powers you get when you level up are very interesting and original to use, from things like killing enemies from a distance silently with shadows, to improving the time it takes to feed on enemies, its essential to upgrade your powers regualarly to compete with the ever increasing amount of enemies there are in rooms as you progress the game.

hiding bodies is essential also, its not enough to simply kill them, you must hide them or risk an alarm being set off turning gurads hostile. this is in keeping with the game being 100% stealth orientated. you wont get any guns or weapons of any kind. to kill an enemiy is the simple task of pressing the A button when close enough, or the X button if you want to kil using a vamp power, close or by range. the tools are there for you to be successful and are fun to use.

the only problem ive encountered are the boss battles. these occur in stages and require you to reach the boss at the end room of the battle, you work your way through rooms in which he calls guards into rooms and you need to stay hidden to sneak past or kill them in order to progress.
