Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The mean cruel cold blooded tyrant Ceville ruthlessly rules the beautiful kingdom of Faeryanis. Or rather, he used to rule the beautiful kingdom of Faeryanis, until the brave people revolted against his regime and drove him out of the palace.

The kindhearted queen Gwendolyn did step up to reign over the land with a council of noble and wise advisors.. It seems that this story could end just like any other fairy tale: "And they lived happily ever after..." But no, that's not quite right. Because another evil rises within the land. The treacherous Basilus - counsellor of Gwendolyn and of Ceville before her - plans to take the crown and torture the realm with the help of murderous beasts he has summoned from the planes of eternal darkness.

All seems lost! But hope resides with the one most unlikely person imaginable to save the kingdom and restore peace to the realm: Ceville, the realm's former despotic ruler...

Three playable main characters:
Ceville, the ancient ruler of Faeryanis and spare-time tyrant, Ambrosius, the noble and somewhat self-important knight and Lilly, the gentle and kind little girl.

This game will give you an impression of what happens, when you mix up the setting and humour of Shrek, Discworld and the Monkey Island series.

         Classic Point and Click Adventure

*       Up to three simultaniously playable characters with weird but loveable personalities

*       Bizarre characters from stock-broker dwarves and hippie-elves who populate the fairy- tale realm of Faeryanis

*       Various locations all over Faerynis, like the Not-So-Hidden druid circle, the (former) Elven Forest, The Dwarven Mines of Mount Goldmore and more! a variety of puzzles, many of which that can only be solved by teamwork of two (or more) player characters

*       Tons of humour

Fun:
Highly recommended for 3rd person humorous adventure fans. If you liked Sam and Max or Monkey Island you will love this.
Pro: unique story line; challenging game play; excellent character animation; outstanding voice acting; optional hotspot highlighting, so no pixel hunting. If this sounds over the top, all I would say is that I have been an Amazon customer for years and this is the first time I have been motivated to write a review!
Con: a few timed puzzles; almost unplayable without using the hotspot highlighting; NPCs talk in the background, which starts off as funny but ends up as distracting.
Make sure you download the 1.0.0.2 patch to avoid crashes later in game.
A great debut from a new developer - Boxed Dream.

Ceville 18 Oct 2010
By Borry
Fun:
I'm a big fan of the Monkey Island games so thought I would give Ceville a try as people have likened it to it and although I can see where they are coming from, for me it isn't a patch on Monkey Island.

Plot: The story starts off with you losing control of your castle and then you have to spend the rest of the game trying to prove who the villain is to everyone. As you can guess, nobody believes you so it takes a little while to get through to them.

Graphics: The graphics are great for a point and click game. Usually the story takes first place to the graphics in these types of games but they really have made it a very vibrant and colourful game.

Sound: Every character has a different voice which is always a plus. I know that sounds silly but some games have the same guy do about five or six different characters making it all very monotonous.

One problem I did have with the sound is that sometimes the background character will occasionally talk over your speech you're having with another guy. Easily solved by making sure all the text is on but it does end up making the screen look quite messy,

Lifespan: It took me just under nine hours to work my way through Ceville as although I enjoy these kinds of games, I can't say I'm very good at them.

Overall, although there's nothing really wrong with the game, I can't say there is really anything that amazing to make it stand out from all the other point and click adventures out there. If your a big fan of the genre then I would recommend it but if you like something a bit more on the action side and only get round to playing a couple of games like this then I would say to look for something else.

Glorious 21 May 2009
Fun:
A triumphant return to the style of adventure Monkey Island pioneered, and perhaps the best since that series. Great characters, excellent script and plausible puzzles. Only complaint is that it seems too short...but I am sure a sequel is coming (especially considering the ending) and it is good value for money.
