This dazzling collection of 14 original Kumiko Sudo designs is inspired by traditional Japanese Kake-jiku - the hand-painted scrolls that hang in entryways and alcoves to celebrate the seasons and bestow good fortune on the household. With her intuitive sense of colour and design, Sudo has rendered each in contemporary fabrics. Like picture-windows into Japanese culture, all designs are constructed using Sudo's unique brand of Japanese applique. Some are embellished with the fabric-origami flowers that have come her trademark; others are enhanced with beautiful sashiko stitching. This work includes: 14 Japan-inspired designs using applique, fabric origami, and sashiko; glorious colour photos and dozens of colour step-by-step drawings; and a package of full-size templates on re-usable reinforced paper is bound in with book.
About the Author
Kumiko Sudo is an internationally acclaimed quilt and fiber artist. Her books include Kokoro no Te, Flower Origami, Folded Flowers, Omiyage, Fabled Flowers, and East Quilts West.

Another beautiful book from Kumiko Sudo

I just love Kumiko Sudo's designs--so fresh, so original. This book is a beauty--Kumiko has an amazing sense of color and blends just the right fabrics. I love to study her color combinations before choosing fabrics for my own quilts. There are some great designs for three-dimensional flowers, and they are not at all difficult to do. I use them on my quilts, but also to dress up clothes I make for my daughters. Beautiful simple designs--so inspiring.

I was totally impressed with how beautiful this book is. The colors in each project really make them pop, and the three-dimensional parts are outstanding - delicate, intricate, chic. This is a gem. I'm finding more surprises with each block, too; no two are alike. I can't wait to hang some "Kumiko Sudo" on my wall!

In "Kake-Jiju: Images Of Japan In Applique Fabric Origami And Sashiko", Japanese fiber artist and acclaimed needlecrafter Kumiko Sudo offers a superbly illustrated and thoroughly impressive collection of 15 decorative quilt wall-hangings inspired by the elegant hand-painted scrolls that have adorned entryways and alcoves in Japanese homes. Their purpose (in addition to being stunning works of art) is to greet each new season and bestow good luck upon the members of the household. Kumiko Sudo's selections reflect her intuitive sense of both color and design with each of the decorative wall-hangings being constructed using her unique brand of Japanese applique. The 'needlecrafter friendly' projects range from being embellished with fabric-origami flowers to those which are enhanced with lovely sashiko stitching. Sudo's own watercolor paintings divide the chapters, while the step-by-step directions are illustrated with photography, color drawings, and full-size reusable templates. "Kake-Jiku" is a unique and enthusiastically recommended addition to a dedicated needlecrafter's reference shelf.
