Kaffe Fassett is an artist using textiles (knits, quilts, needlepoint) and paint. His style is to use a sort of ornamentation-on-steroids, a wild profusion of color and pattern to create a wash of color with pattern that looks logical in its confusion. His work never fails to amaze me. If you liked his earlier knit books, this Pattern Library is a really valuable addition. Instead of sweater patterns, this book has detailed charts of the designs and hints on how to knit them (such as the popular round Persian Poppy that you can do with a "magic ball" or random strands of yarn tied into a giant raggedy ball that yields fascinating results.) For those who design their own vests, pullovers, jumpers and coats, this is a really valuable reference book. Personally, I'd just use it to knit pillows and not even worry about creating a garment with the patterns. Plenty of color photos, detailed shots and a nice printing job, too. Highly recommended for knitters who love colorwork.

This is Kaffe's latest publication and brings together his years of pattern designing in two distinct sections. The first half of the book showcases samples and swatches of his colourwork designs, and the second half tells you how to go about knitting them, including charts and yarn suggestions. The black background to the pictures makes the colours really stand out. The book includes patterns designed for the Peruvian Connection and non-Rowan work. It is a beautifully brilliant book, with explosions of colour on every page. My only niggle would be that a few of the designs are very same-y, with only slight differences between colour choices. That said, I think this is well worth the price and is an excellent starting point for your imagination!

I love Kaffe Fassett's work, but am not looking for garment patterns as such. That is where this book scores so highly, together with the beautiful designs, both contemporary and traditional, shown in an array of inspirational colours. Unlike some other books, you don't see one garment you like, which was probably on the cover, while those inside are disappointing. The cover is only a taster for the delights inside. And it isn't about making sweaters, although he does give some useful hints on how the charts can be used for your own knitted pieces.
The book is a showcase of over 190 of his designs, with the second section of the book devoted to charts for those designs, with little personal notes beside each one with advice on its use. The writing is so down to earth and friendly that you feel almost as though Kaffe Fassett is leading you personally through a design course! I wish! None of those irritating and pretentious 'mission statements', or anything about knitting being the new yoga!
The designs themselves - what can I say? Stunning. Wonderful. If you want your socks blown off, buy this book. With the heavy discount offered by Amazon, it is well worth the money, probably more. Beautifully printed on good quality glossy paper, you may well be payng a lot more for it in a few years time. Get it now!!

If you are a fan of Kaffe Fassett's knitting style, and want to try and reproduce his patterns on your own knitwear, this is the book for you. With nearly 200 design charts and associated colour photos, this is a mine of information. Kaffe's wonderful use of colour and pattern sing out from this book.

What a treat this book is. It basically gives you a huge selection of his designs, knitted up, and at the back you get the accompanying charts if you want to have a go. There are no suggestions as to colourways, etc, you're left on your own in that regard. But it does serve as an inspiration to those knitters brave enough to have a go themselves at a design from scratch. A brilliant coffee table book, even if you're never going to do colour work yourself.

After having bought quite a few of Kaffe Fassets books trough the years, I was a bit worried that this book wouldn't be of any use to me. But I was SO wrong! I find myself looking at it again and again, and I still haven't picked a pattern for my next knitting-project as there are so many to choose from. I love it!

If, like me you love colour and are easily bored knitting in only one colour, this book will inspire you to waste large amounts of time knitting instead of doing all the boring jobs that require your attention! Met Kaffe recently again and he is an inspiration to us all with so much energy both physical and mental. Even if you don't knit this is wonderful colouful coffee table book.

I expected a lot of new interesting patterns, colour combinations and also instructions how to knit them. Therefore, the book was a disappointment. Mostly unteresting or trivial patterns (like stripes!), quite restricted colour schemes and minimal instructions. For example, for one pattern (exceptionally, it was given implementation hints) it was advised to combine both fair isle and intarsia, but how to do it remained unclear. At least I have understood that fair isle suits for circularly knitting (which is maybe cut afterwards) while intarsia is knitted as flat. I would say it is a nice book to scan through once, but I doubt I will ever return to it again. So, library would have been a better option.
