A beautiful book. 15 April 2005
By lynsey adams VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love Kaffe Fassett's work, but am not looking for garment patterns as such. That is where this book scores so highly, together with the beautiful designs, both contemporary and traditional, shown in an array of inspirational colours. Unlike some other books, you don't see one garment you like, which was probably on the cover, while those inside are disappointing. The cover is only a taster for the delights inside. And it isn't about making sweaters, although he does give some useful hints on how the charts can be used for your own knitted pieces.

The book is a showcase of over 190 of his designs, with the second section of the book devoted to charts for those designs, with little personal notes beside each one with advice on its use. The writing is so down to earth and friendly that you feel almost as though Kaffe Fassett is leading you personally through a design course! I wish! None of those irritating and pretentious 'mission statements', or anything about knitting being the new yoga!

The designs themselves - what can I say? Stunning. Wonderful. If you want your socks blown off, buy this book. With the heavy discount offered by Amazon, it is well worth the money, probably more. Beautifully printed on good quality glossy paper, you may well be payng a lot more for it in a few years time. Get it now!!

By Joanna Daneman VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Kaffe Fassett is an artist using textiles (knits, quilts, needlepoint) and paint. His style is to use a sort of ornamentation-on-steroids, a wild profusion of color and pattern to create a wash of color with pattern that looks logical in its confusion. His work never fails to amaze me. If you liked his earlier knit books, this Pattern Library is a really valuable addition. Instead of sweater patterns, this book has detailed charts of the designs and hints on how to knit them (such as the popular round Persian Poppy that you can do with a "magic ball" or random strands of yarn tied into a giant raggedy ball that yields fascinating results.) For those who design their own vests, pullovers, jumpers and coats, this is a really valuable reference book. Personally, I'd just use it to knit pillows and not even worry about creating a garment with the patterns. Plenty of color photos, detailed shots and a nice printing job, too. Highly recommended for knitters who love colorwork.

colour explosion 30 Mar 2004
Format:Hardcover
This is Kaffe's latest publication and brings together his years of pattern designing in two distinct sections. The first half of the book showcases samples and swatches of his colourwork designs, and the second half tells you how to go about knitting them, including charts and yarn suggestions. The black background to the pictures makes the colours really stand out. The book includes patterns designed for the Peruvian Connection and non-Rowan work. It is a beautifully brilliant book, with explosions of colour on every page. My only niggle would be that a few of the designs are very same-y, with only slight differences between colour choices. That said, I think this is well worth the price and is an excellent starting point for your imagination!
