5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant follow up... 28 July 2002
Format:DVD
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is a wonderful follow up to the huge 1998 superhit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and see's the lead stars taking up their original roles of Angali (Kajol) and Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) who, back in KKHH, fell in love and finally got together after a few Bollywood-style hitches.

K3G (as it is lovingly nicknamed) is simply a wondeful film that takes the viewer into the love, lives and class issues that surround Yashovardhan Raichand and his family. The first half of the film is set some years back in the past, so as to give the viewer all the background information needed to understand the coming events, and it also has some very sweet moments as Rahul and Angali fall in love, despite all of Angali's attempts to dislike and resist Rahul!

Being a wealthy and highly respect businessman, Yashovarshan cannot believe it when his eldest son, Rahul (who is actually adopted by the Raichands) falls in love with Angali, a girl from the so called 'lower' classes. Rahul goes against his father's wishes and marries her. This apparent act of non-conformancy causes a rift so wide, that Rahul leaves his home and settles abroad to start a new life with Angali.

The second half of the film focuses on the 'present', as it were. Rohan (played by Hrithik Roshan) is the Raichand's youngest son, and was their only born child. When he left home some 10 or more years back, Rahul was still there. Now he returns to a house that is empty, and a mother who is heartbroken.

Rohan doesn't know about Rahul's adoption... until he overhears his Granmother recounting the events that caused the family rift. At which point he vows to find his brother and sister-in-law, and heal the rift once and for all.

A brilliant movie, with a wonderful storyline, gorgeous costumes and marvellous dance sequences. A must for any Bollywood fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant! 7 April 2002
Format:DVD
I had no idea at what to expect from watching a Bollywood film but I was certainly not disappoined by this film
It was a fantastic very watchable film and really gave me an insight into Bollywood as a whole.
It appears that the actors and actresses were picked very well indeed to play their roles, Kajol was great, as were all the others.
The music throughout the film was great, it helped keep the story flowing and it was 'catchy' too. The use of the phrase "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" throughout kept the film cohesive whilst also reminding the viewer of the emotions revolving around the characters.
This film had a great mixture of comedy, love and emotion throughout. The emotion was conveyed in a very clever way making the viewer almost feel part of what was going on.
The film does last a long time (over 3 hours) but don't be detered from watching it because it was great!
My only critisism is the fact that there were no 'extras' on the DVD. Some interviews with the actors and actresses would have been good.
On the whole a fantastic Bollywood to get you into the scene and this will certainly not be my last!

5.0 out of 5 stars K3G ROCKS!! 10 Feb 2003
By Laura
Format:DVD
Having never seen a Bollywood film before, this was an absolutely wonderful film. I loved the music, the dancing, the drama, the symbolism, the sweet love stories--even insane Pooja's horrible attitude and self-indulgence. Every actor was excellent from the main character to the son of Anjali's neighbors in the second half of the film. Everyone should see this. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a good love story, should watch this movie. Indian culture and modern stereotypical Britain... the mix of languages, the inside jokes ("sure? confident?") made this movie a thrill. I cried for about 2/3 of the time at my first viewing. Touching and poignant. Go get it!
