Product Description

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) is the story of Dev and Maya, both married to different people and completely convinced that they are haappy. until they meet other. Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) is a professional football player whose promising career is nipped in the byd after an accident. He is married to Reha (Preity Zinta) whose career is on an upswing. They have a son. Arjun, and Dev's mother. Kamaljit (Kirron Kher) lives with them. Maya (Rani Mukherji) teaches at a nursery and has married her closest friend Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan), a PR consultant. Rishi's father, Samarjit Singh aka Sam (Amitabh Bachchan) is a flamboyant, fun-loving man whose life revolves around the happiness of his son and daughter-in-low. The two couples seem content despite the dissatisfaction below the surface but things start to change when a chance encounter between Dev and Maya causes them to look into their marriages with a new perspective and face up to issues that they hadn't before. How all the different characters deal with this new development in their lives forms the crux of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Review

KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is not a date film and the writers Karan Johar, Shibani Bathija spell it out at the very outset. The screenplay balances the two extremes -- light moments and dollops of emotions -- with amazing ease. The relationship between the couples or even those between the parent and child (the Bachchans) is delicately handled. If there are moments that move you to tears, there are ample moments that bring a smile to your face as well. Another noteworthy aspect is its forthright dialogues (Niranjan Iyengar). The lines sound straight of life and there also exist a host of interesting observations. Yes, the film is talky, but in a smart way. You never feel that the characters are talking to hear their own words or to fill up screen time.Anil Mehta's cinematography is awesome.Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music is melodious. 'Mitwa', 'Rock N Roll Soniye' and 'Where's The Party Tonite' appeal also due to the vibrant choreography (Farah Khan). On the whole, KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is an outstanding film from the writing, performance and execution point of view. --platform47.com

Cream of the crop 2 Dec 2006
Format:DVD
This is an emotionally gripping and controversial film about two married people who fall in love with each other. I know it has attracted a lot of criticism because of that but it's quality will outlast the controversy. Fantastic acting, beautiful sets, a dialogue that crackles with tension and sensational music (it doesn't get any better than 'Rock and Roll Soniye')will make this movie a classic. The dinner table confrontation between SRK and Amitabh Bachchan was worth the entrance fee alone. My asian girlfriend loved the first part but hated the ending - you'll have to make your own mind up about it - but don't let others make it up before you've even seen it!

Karan's name equates with quality and the director and polished script writer has an attention to detail and KANK is another testimony of his ability to grasp human relationships. What makes relationship work/break but at the same time the fine line between friendship and more than friends between the opposite sexes! KANK is a movie which combines a lot of emotion and looks at the bonding of mariage which is supposed to be a holy institution but then people change and when like the weather after the storm there is the sun which pops out. KANK is just like that - detailing the relationship of 2 mariages which are hitting the rocks blended by some memorable tunes, MITWA! This movie deserves to be seen and one does not see how it lasts just above 3 hours!

Very slow moving it took about 2 hours of patiently watching this movie before it started heading anywhere. A couple of nice songs and picked up towards the end but not as good as my asian friend recommended.
