If unrequited love stories is your thing, then this is a great movie. "Paper Flowers" shows a man at his peak, wildly successful discovering that life is not about success (at least not for him. he discovers a startling young actress and as her trajectory rises he begins to see that the fame he achieved (and that she now achieves) is meaningless. This because he cant get what he really wants, to escape the world and have his love returned. The end is haunting, like a Douglas Sirk movie.

guru dutt made 5 great classics with waheeda rehman ,they are super gifted natural talents ,this is a personal almost autobiographical story of a bollywood director married to the daughter of aristocrat parents having a love affair with a leading lady he discovers and moulds into a diva .
it is a poetic ,lyrical account of a desperate ,discontent man in a doomed relationship .
it is a cult classic for serious cineastes and also a realistic and stylish portait of the real life affair between duut-rehman .
the music is fascinating with the great song
waqt ne kiya kya hassen sitam
time has dealt us a magical cruel blow of love .
this movie is well crafted and was ahead of it's times when released but is still a genuine classic on an extra -marital affair and class distinctions within a social paradox where indian society shunned people associated with cinema as anti-social .
