Busy stuff! 24 Sept. 2012

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Basically Transformers and building blocks. Two awesome toys that are...pretty awesome together.

I've heard some purists are upset because the number of robots who make up Devastator is only four (Hightower, Scavenger, Drill Bit and Scrapper, here) but let's face it; that number's always been a bit fluid. Just look at the movieverse Devastator.

You can build the four robots, or the four vehicles, OR Devy. So, honestly, hours of fun right there. And then you have those darn cute little Kreons: Ironhide, a teeny Devastator, and four human construction workers who are all, uh, is this weird to mention? They sort of look white and male. I'm never a huge fan of humans in my Transformers, and this is kid of a classic reason. And in general, I'd've dug more robot Kreons, since they're, you know, named characters?

Yeah, yeah, political correctness aside, the toy also hs a little work scaffold and building.

It's rated ages 8 to 14, and that seems about right--maybe a bit older than 8, though? There isn't anything particularly fiddly about building the robots or Devastator, but it does require a bit of eye-hand coordination and patience. You'd know your kid best.

In short, lots of build potential, lots of play potential. And hey, construction toys!

Still as much fun as when we were kids. 21 Aug. 2012

Im a 38 year old woman, and I love to play with toys. I grew up with a mom that understood my love of Barbies, as well as Hot Wheels. I personally played with the Generation One Transformers, my favorite being the "pretender" line. Transformers that turned into monsters or animals (Decepticons) or Humans (autobots).

I am not a fan of the new movies, I think they bastardize the original series and take away the magic of the series and make it all about CGI, explosions, and Shia Labeouf.

This Set is the Destruction Site Devastator Set. Build 1 giant robot, 4 vehicles, or 4 robots. Scrapper, Drill Bit, Scavenger, and Hightower. It also comes with 6 Kreon Figures; construction Devestator, Construction foreman (who has a bull horn and a hot dog!), construction worker (with a pick axe), another worker with a hammer, another worker with a wrench, and Ironhide with his weapon. The set includes a tool shed, caution cones, a cement mixer, construction site scaffolds, and many other pieces...560 in all!!!!

It says ages 8-14 but ....yea....I played.

Mixed thoughts on a pretty neat toy 17 April 2013

When this box first arrived, there was great excitement from my son. He loves all things Transformers. Assembling this toy was a great thrill. He was engaged, the process was slow, but seemed fun. it seemed like each step was earned. But it was rewarding to him. However, as others have said, once assembled, it seems like the fun ends. The toy is very fragile, as you try to transform it at all, pieces really just break off. They do not transform in a way you would like. The whole thing seems fragile.

It is spectacular looking, it was fun to assemble, but the long term playability of the toy seems iffy. If that changes in the future, I will come back and update.

Nice big set with nicely designed constructicons as well as a reasonably accurate Devastator Kreon and a hard to find Iron Hide Kreon.

I grew up a huge Transformers fan, and so did my son, so we were excited to give this a try.

The set comes with LOADS of colorful pieces with fairly good variety (albeit not as good variety as a hi-end Lego set). It's designed to be able to build an array of vehicles, robots, or one giant Devastator robot. That's all pretty cool, as is the overall design. The various components are good and the toys you can build look sharp.

They're not, however, very PLAYABLE. You're not going to be using these robots for your adventures. They don't articulate well, and they may be Transformers, but they don't transform! The fun here is solely in the building.

The bricks aren't as high quality as Lego bricks, either. They just don't hold together as well.

BUT the price is more attractive than many Lego sets, doing the construction is just as fun, the bricks go together more easily than Lego, and the design of the finished creations is very good.

If you like building blocks and Transformers, this one should be on your list -- just don't expect Lego.
