This motherboard is a great way to build a system around an old socket 754 chip (if you have one to hand). It is very reliable (I have had no problems with it at all) and would make a good basis for a home server set up or maybe a media centre. The only lacking feature is a gigabit ethernet but an additional pci gig ethernet card can be bought for �15 so it's not such a problem. However, remember that this technology is old so do not expect to build a system for playing modern games or encoding HD films.

You can't go wrong with the Asrock K8 Upgrade, pity they are so hard to get hold of these days. Whilst they aren't amazingly powerful in comparison to multicore proc/board combos these are great for bridging the IDE/SATA gap. I bought this after my ancient machine finally packed up as it was one of the few boards remaining that can hande IDEs yet also has SATA connectors for when I can afford to upgrade proper. If you can get one, the socket 754 AMD procs are still easy to find though you'll have to settle for a machine under 2.0GHZ. Still, best board for reviving older machines imho.

i have had this board for 6 months in a system i built with a sempron 3100 64bit cpu, everything works really well first class with 1 gig memory (pc3200 ddr 400)however with cool and quite enabled it would suddenly cut out, i think the cpu fan nearly stopped ? with c&q disabled i have had no problems at all.so i would say the board has good upgade ability being able to take cpu upgrade to 939-pin cpu.
