Again, Wolfgang Voigt provides us with another slab of deep, filtered and multi-layered ambience. Psychadelic, again, since it's a very "busy" ambient sound. If you can grab the vinyl edition of this, then do so AS WELL AS the CD, as the tracks differ in length, and order. Crucially: you'll get the first track on the A-side, which is exclusive to the vinyl, and probably the high point of all the releases. It's just over 6 minutes, and has a simple up-and-down arpeggiated melody and pounding kick drums w/ reversed, slippery hihats, over the top of the usual thick, myriad selection of filtered pads; and it stood out even after just the first listen. I truely believe it's the best track Wolfgang Voigt has produced - at the least, best track under the Gas moniker. Zauberberg was a foreboding journey through the German forest of the same name (or is it Austrian?), and the dark red cover fitted it nicely. Konigsforst is more of an enigma - the tracks all work together as a unit, like all the other albums, but I can't really describe it as well as Zau and Pop. Doesn't matter - it's just as stunning as all the other Gas releases. The 15-minute fifth track from the vinyl (CD also?), is also quite an epic.
