I bought one of these to be able to reach from a stepladder a first floor window which is above a sloping porch. I found it worked quite well, but it's not magic.

I'd recommend anybody thinking of buying one to consider carefully whether it will do what they want. It works by replacing the standard head of the window vac with something similar but with a socket for the extension pole. (It's hard to see why this style of head isn't provided as standard because without the pole itworks like the standard head.)

Anybody who has used a window vac will know that its jug-like shape means it can be difficult to clean windows directly above an obstruction such as a wide sill. Using this pole meets the same problems, with the added difficulty that it can't be used to make a final sweep across the bottom of the window with the vac on its side.

Other reviewers report being able to clean upstairs windows without ladders. At 5'8" my maximum reach is a couple of metres so with 2 metres of pole, I can just reach my 4m high bedroom window sills. It might well be possible to lash together some sort of additional extension but I think there's a limit to how far you can reach like that and still make a decent job of cleaning windows. Bear in mind that continuous movements down the pane from top to bottom are much more effective than stops and starts.

Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of instructions and they are poor although I found it easy to work out what to do. The pole is like a standard decorator's extending pole (but with the Karcher head) and the joint between the two sections is loosened by twisting them anti-clock and then tightening clockwise after adjusting the overall length.

When I saw this product at Amazon UK, I didn't know it actually existed. As the owner of a Karcher WV50 cordless window washer wiper, I was very intrigued as I need something like an extension to use for my windows outside. Normally used to climbing up a ladder precariously with glass vinegar spray and the Karcher means that job is banished for good! This extension eradicates the danger of climbing a ladder in the first instance! With the ability to extend to 1.9 metres, the actual extension pole works on a infinite height adjustable turn to lock procedure and you get a foam sponge head as an optional cleaning accessory with a larger wiper head that can be used instead of the standard wiper on the Karcher WV50.

In use, this is a very safely designed extension pole, though slow performance is really required here as the weight of the Karcher wiper is obviously at one end and the overal weight of 2kg means that it is slightly heavier than expected. There's a swivel lock neck at the top when the Karcher WV50 is locked in too, making it ideal for cleaning windows at different angles though. The pole and the attachments are also quite durable and well made.

All in all, if you want to wash your windows outside without climbing up a ladder, this extension lance product and the free heads you get are well worth considering. It is a far safer approach and allows the owner to do the job quickly and safely. Thanks for reading. (c)NR2 2013.

Strong, easy to assemble, light weight. The window vac is still well balanced and easy to use.

Only 2 drawbacks. - 1 - you need to keep swooping the heads from the sponge to the vac. What I do is slop all over the windows first and then hoover them after. Though it is quite easy to connect and disconnect the heads, so it's not too onerous. 2 - some of my windows need the small blade which can't be used on this pole.

Would be nice to have an extension piece long enough to reach outside of upstairs windows.

Ideal for getting to windows behind bushes and behind sofas and dressing table.

It works fine but as I have problems with holding up my arms I found it a little difficult to get the right angles to clean the top of the windows to my satisfaction.

I was so impressed with the window vac that I decided to get the extension lance to be able to do the outside windows. It arrived very promptly and I decided to give it a go the following day.

The lance is very sturdy with simple push-in buttons to release the different heads. At the side of the lance is a knob which turns and allows you to change the angle of the head. It does make the vac heavier but not by too much. It would not reach the upper floor of a house but is good for the ground floor and high windows.

The cleaning head has a good quality, soft, absorbent fleecy type cover which is removable for washing. The idea with this is that you dampen it and then use the spray bottle from the standard window vac pack to coat with solution and then the window gets washed.

The rubber vac fitting completely replaces the original ones and has a slot to attach it to the lance. It is this head that lost the product a star as I did not find it as good as either of the original ones, it did not seem to be as firm as the original and the whole thing wobbled a bit on the end of the lance. It may just be that as I get used to using it and get the angle right this becomes less of a problem but for now I had to go over the windows to get bits that had been missed. It is also a little fiddlly to get the angle right and the vac will not go onto the lance if the angle is too acute, this means that even if you have got the perfect position you might need to change the angle again when swapping the head back and forwards between the cleaning head and the vac.

Other than the slight difficulties mentioned it is much easier and safer to use the lance than get a stepladder out and makes the window vac a much more usable product.
