I bought this vacuum when my old one of 10 years had finally packed up. I thought I would go with a DIY vac so that my husband could use it as well as me. This turned out to be one of the best ideas I have ever had because my husband took this as an opportunity to complete all of the DIY jobs he has been meaning to do over the past 5 years. You would think that this would worry me but with my new purchase all of my worries diasppeared. This cleared up all of his mess and more, like wallpaper shavings, sawdust and even moss out of the gutter. By the end of the weekend, our house looked brand spanking new! Thank you Karcher

This is a really good product for the price - which seems to have dropped by another £8 in the two days since I bought it! I was after a simple vacuum cleaner for use in situations where I wouldn't want to use the normal one. Specifically we have some building going on with loads of brick dust, rubble and other stuff lying around. From reading the other reviews it seemed ideal, and I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't as noisy as I had expected and it was very powerful sucking up everything it it's way. I was pleased to find the cartridge filter installed, although if you are cleaning dust (rather than rubble or larger bits) be prepared to clean it regularly.

Overall - this is ideal for the purpose and you don't need to pay more. However I have deducted one star as this (although being bought in the UK) came with a two pin European plug. I have had to cut this off and replace it with a UK one, although you could use it with an adapter. So if you are buying this you will either need to get a suitable adapter (like a shaver plug) or be prepared to replace the plug.

I needed a powerful vacuum for my occasional DIY work so after trying out a Karcher upright I decided to go with the MV2. I haven’t been disappointed. The first thing I noticed was how light the unit is. It’s small enough for easy transport and the tools, hose and power lead all pack away fast and securely. There are no latches on the solid hose tubes which makes assembly quick and simple. The carpet tool is basic in design but works surprisingly well with the cleaner’s above average suction power. The dry bag and filter change is quick and positive. Combined with the hose length the lead is long enough to reach across a medium sized room and its obstacles without changing sockets. This is a handy piece of kit and excellent value.

In comparison to some other makes the mv2 has the disadvantage of a bag. This reduces the volume greatly, consequently it has few advantages over a domestic vacuum cleeaner

I have the similar A 2004 model that has the same specification.

We had a water leak that saturated our lounge carpet whilst we were out of the house. I needed to buy a wet vacuum quickly and within the budget authorised by the insurance company and this fitted the bill; albeit at significantly more than Amazon's price in May 2013. It made a reasonable job of removing water from a heavy contract wool carpet; the carpet was still wet but not saturated. It does have a tendency to fall over which is a bit self-defeating if it has water in it at the time. Some water may be discharged along with the extracted air, so I stand it in a tray - like an oversized seed tray or litter tray - if I'm wet vacuuming spills in the house. Note that the filter remains in the unit whilst wet vacuuming and will have to be removed and dried after use.

I've used it in dry mode with the crevice nozzle to remove sand from the car footwell, and it does an excellent job.

At 75 dB(A) it's acceptably noisy.

Accessories are really expensive especially the car cleaning tool. The house cleaning kit could be useful though.

So good value especially if bought from Amazon; I unfortunately had to buy it from a major supermarket chain.

I bought this machine in France. It came with the sleeve filter not the cartridge filter (see below). I put it together, put the bag in, and tried it immediately to clean up a dusty area in the roofspace of the house. So there was a lot of dry, fine cement-like powder, quite a bit of sandy grit, a few bits of broken brick about the size of sugar cubes and a few splintery bits of wood shavings. I left the machine outside the cubby-hole door while I vacuumed the (small) space.

On the plus side, it picked up everything.

On the down side, the bag split. There was about a mugful of material in it. I suppose the bag was not strong enough to contain one of the bits of brick or bits of wood shavings.

This was a new machine remember; first use! And unknown to me, it very effectively filled the rest of the upstairs with clouds of fine dust. When I came out of the small roof space I could barely see across the landing for the dust in the air. Now everything in the landing and much of the bedrooms is covered in a fine layer of gritty dust. You can imagine how popular that is with the rest of the family. :-(

I bought this intending it to be used in the garage, workshop/cellar and for cleaning out the mucky nooks and crannies around the house. But now I am very wary of using it for anything other than what our domestic vacuum could cope with anyway. My experience does not give me confidence that it is: "a must-have for DIY enthusiasts - ... make light work of everything from rubble and sawdust to sludge and spills."

I do feel I have wasted my money.

What I propose to do now is waste some more money on some more bags and the *cartridge filter* to see if that is any more effective than the sleeve filter. But what I really wanted was a bagless wet and dry machine that will cope with typical DIY waste. The publicity material - the descriptions on the Amazon page are typical - do not mention the need for bags, indeed it is implied (to my eyes) that the 'special filter' makes them unnecessary ("The special cartridge filter makes wet or dry vacuuming easy"). Which is why I am - with a heavy heart - going to spend yet more money in the hope that it performs better than the sleeve filter.

I'm not holding my breath.

** Update (May 2015) **

I *did* buy a cartridge filter, and it *did* make a world of difference so I have increased my star rating from 1 to 3. Over 12 months I've used the machine for a wide variety of jobs and I'm much more satisfied with it, even without a bag.

I would still offer one criticism: for a cleaner that is designed to be multi-purpose, I find the hose a bit small, and difficult to clean after very dirty jobs. But I've learned when to use it and when not, so I get by.

The cartridge filter itself gets blocked fairly regularly, especially if I've been using it for cleaning up powdery waste (like fine sawdust from a sanding machine). (As I said I don't use a bag, so that might well avoid this problem). I clean it by putting it inside a plastic bag (to trap the dust and so I don't breathe it in!) and vigorously bashing it against the floor. Also I then use my domestic vacuum cleaner to clean the filter. This sounds a bit self-defeating, but the amount of dust is relatively small and stays inside the collecting bag of the domestic machine. It's worth it! A clean filter gives very much greater suction and cleaning power.
