I had previously owned one of the small hand held steam cleaners, which was absolutely useless; there wasn't enough steam power to do any cleaning and it mostly just gushed out water. This, on the other hand, the steam flies out! I've just cleaned the kitchen back to a nice squeaky finish using water, a dish cloth and a bit of kitchen towel. The cleaner just dissolves the dirt and you go round after just wiping things over. I probably cleaned the kitchen in half the time and used no chemicals.
The only negative points are sometimes there is so much steam you can't see what you're doing! Another point is, it won't work on deep fat fryer grease, burnt on oven residue and thick limescale, which is not the end of the world.

I've used my sister's Polti steam cleaner before, but got to the stage I was borrowing it more than she was using it!
Did some online research and bought this one KÄRCHER SC1402 Steam Cleaner with 1800W Heating Operation (cheaper than the Polti) based on Amazon reviews and also the fact that you can refill the tank on the fly - a huge bonus.
The first one worked for about an hour, then stopped. Tried again next day; didn't work at all. Amazon's returns system worked a treat - I had a new one in slightly over 24hrs! Also the pickup of the faulty one went as planned.
I'm delighted with the new one - I never realised how much I could use it for (my sister had lost her instruction book). It's brilliant for windows, laminate and tiled floors, getting dog smells off the carpet, and superb for cleaning the shower, basin, loo, bath, bidet, sink, kitchen work surfaces, whatever. Gets stuff really squeaky clean with little effort (we don't have limescale to deal with here though). I'm even contemplating blitzing the oven.
It heats up so quickly, you barely have time to vacuum to get rid of dust/dog hairs #recommended) before it's ready - and of course, you can fill it on the fly. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Also, the design allows you to store all the accessories in/on the body of the machine - very clever. Would have given 5 stars if first one had worked properly.
Delighted I bought it. Now, I just need to teach my husband to use it.....!

My karcher steam cleaner 1402 arrived today. i treated myself to this for my birthday which was today. I have been really enjoying using it, even though i hate cleaning . i didnt realise my kitchen was so dirty until i started blasting the steam everywhere. i am pleased with my purchase. the good thing about this model is you can refill easily as you can see the water level and it comes with lots of utensils. the down side is i had to keep making sure the hose was in correctly as it would stop steaming every time i pulled on the hose to drag the unit across the floor.... it is cheaper else where than on amazon by as much as 100 pounds
