Book Description

5 Dec 2011 Book & 2 Cds
This book contains a complete course for anyone wanting to learn how to play acoustic or electric Guitar. After 20 years of teaching Guitar, Justin has realised that the majority of beginner guitarists struggle with the same problems, and has worked out how to help them overcome the things they find difficult. The course is divided into nine stages; each stage has enough new material to keep you busy , but not so much that you'll feel overwhelmed. Each stage has a practice routine and ear-training exercises that will help you quickly improve. The book comes with two specially-recorded CDs containing demonstrations of every chord, technique and exercise you'll need. This book is complemented by the online videos on justinguitar.com. In addition to the nine course stages the book contains an exclusive bonus section to expand your chord knowledge and blues playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great help. 29 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I purchased this book, along with Justin's Beginner's songbook, last July and started his course at the beginning of August. I'd never tried to learn guitar before and at 36 years old I thought I wouldn't have the dexterity I had as a kid and I'd struggle. Well, I finished the course in February, followed his Strumming DVD and then started his intermediate course (free online). I know around 18 songs from memory, can play a good many different barre chords up and down the neck and learnt 4 different scales so I can improvise solos to backing tracks as well as learnt a little music theory.

Just learning from youtube as well as having the book means you have both a visual and written pathways to learning. You don't have to keep pausing a book, like a youtube clip and you can really absorb the information better. On bits where the book might not be clear, the practical demonstrations from Justin on youtube help with that so both accompany each other perfectly. What I've realised after nearly a year is that I didn't just buy a book for learning guitar but placed myself into some sort of guitar learning ecosystem. I had a book, youtube clips, website info and a forum of helpful posters as support and knowledge.

I've never tried to learn guitar before so nothing to compare it to, but I just don't see other books or online guitar courses that off so much for such little money. You can't really go wrong getting this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Tool 15 Jun 2012
This book is great for the beginner or those trying to improve, as always Justin provides a clear no nonsense guide backed up by video on U tube . The book is just the right size and easily sits on a music stand. There are some classics and some new to me, but everyone should be able to relate to the content. Well done and cannot wait for the next level!!

For anyone looking for good teach yourself guitar aids - my absolute top tip is to look at Justin Sandecoe's 'Beginners Guitar Course' on Amazon, and his own website, justinguitar.com. After buying numerous other beginners books, CD's and DVD's, I've found that Justin Sandecoe's is by far the most comprehensive, detailed, and easy to follow pack, with a great inspring and motivating teaching style. I wish someone had told me about Justin when I first started learning guitar, I could have saved a fortune and hours of searching for other teach yourself products. I'm now happily learning at my own pace from Justin Sandecoe's range of beginners books, CD's, DVD's and downloads, all at very reasonable price, with some also free on youtube. If you're learning guitar, do yourself a favour and check out:The Justinguitar.Com Beginner's Guitar Course (Book & 2 Cds). 5.0 out of 5 stars your guitar journey begins here. 28 Dec 2011
Justin Sandercoe is one of the best Guitar Teachers around. This book is the perfect companion to the DVD all the lessons from the dvd are here in text form. there are a total of 9 stages plus the before you begin stage which includes common guitar questions the type of guitar you should buy the acesories you need and so on. the book is well liad out in plain english some great photos which will not have you banging your head agianst a brick wall or a feeling of hopelesness like some other guitar books do. here you start off with the very basics at stage one as you progress you are introduced to Rhyhm patterns (strumming)power chords the minor pentotonic scale 12 bar blues progressing all the way trough to stage 9. the book in many ways is like a home study course there are tests you take on ear training which is a away of identifying chords by sound and ear and is a very useful skill there are boxes to write your answers in a practice schedule for each stage were you tick off each day the skill you have learned and covered.theres also a bonus stage in this book that introduces you to some more common chords you can learn advice on changing strings and buying an amp theres some blues solos to learn and put your new skills into practice and the popular christmas carol silent night. the book also has 2 CDS which acompany each stage plus full tutorials on the ear training sessions if you buy this with the dvd then you have the entire beginners course that justin teaches plus some cool extras (both in the book and on the dvd)and if you buy the songbook too that covers songs for each stage then you are in beginners guitar heaven lol. my advice would be to do the course from scatch even if you already know the stuff from early stages you may stumble on a useful bit of info you didnt even know This is what I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy it! 27 Dec 2011
There are a LOT of guitar books & courses available ( I have a few!!).
For the price you will not find better.
2 Cds of examples, ear training exercises, etc - plus there is a free website with everything on - inc videos.
You could just use his website for free - but I think having a book in front of you really helps.
There is an accompanying song book to give you something interesting to actually play at each stage of the course - get that too!!
Very highly recommended if you want a proper, structured course without paying a fortune for private lessons.
