Justine first became addicted to the nomadic lifestyle when she lived in South Africa and South Korea as a little tacker. Travelling often at an early age, coupled with a Canberran adolescence, gave her itchy feet and a love for all things far from home. This passion induced her to gain a degree in Third World Development Studies, cart a backpack through Southern and West Africa, the USA, South America, India, Mexico, Southeast Asia and Scotland and hang the boots in Arizona, Edinburgh and London for a while. Ultimately she decided it was more enjoyable to save the world by writing about it, and somewhere in that mix she hit the study books again in the hope of getting paid for her prose. It worked. In between her years as a freelancer Justine has worked at Amnesty International and the Australian Conservation Foundation and continues to mix her travel writing with environmental and human rights articles. She has also written for newspapers, magazines and tourist boards of various nationalities. For Lonely Planet, Justine has bussed, sailed, kayaked, trekked, hitch hiked, cycled, dived, snorkelled and gotten lost in Malawi, Fiji, Indonesia and Laos. She has also selflessly researched Queensland's beaches and reef and New South Wales' beautiful national parks for several of Lonely Planet's Australia guides. For the most part she now calls Melbourne home, where a distinct lack of wild beasties or tropical weather keeps her feet well and truly itchy.
