Format:DVD
Timothy Olyphant plays a US marshal transferred to Hicksville USA (in season 1), his home town. Home to his past, his mistakes his family and his family problems.
What results is a performance that puts him in the model of a modern young Clint Eastwood (which the cover artists have clearly picked up on), you find yourself talking to the TV when someone crosses him , saying "Oh dear... you really didn't want to do that" you know some one will get their comeuppance, yet the threats are subtle, this is not a hero that needs to shout swear and throw his weight around, like Eastwood its his reputation that does the damage to the bad guys.
I have seen Timothy Olyphant in some other roles that he carried off ok, but this one is his niche, this is the one that i think defines how good he can be, and that coupled with some great direction, some great casting of the peripheral characters and the setting all combine to make this a really unforgettable show.
I found that season 2 was improved by Raylan being conscious of the issues and paper work involved with shooting people, and so the "really go on i dare you look" is even more present. His relationship with Boyd is explored in more depth and we met more of the people from Harlan county, giving this series a much more rounded plot to go with the amazing characters
Highly recommended, i had this pre-ordered something i almost never do with DVD's

I was really impressed by the first season of Justified and the second is even better. The show has really hit its stride. It is slow burning but never dull for a moment. Timothy Olyphant is again excellent as Marshall Raylan Givens, now trying to be less quick on the draw because he's tired of all the trouble he gets, and also back with his ex-wife, who gets herself in trouble and needs him to help. The character of Boyd,one of the most interesting from season 1, also gets more screen time as he attempts to go straight despite all manner of offers from the criminal world, the episode where he is forced into helping rob the mining company is the best episode of the series, very tense. The show is smart and also has a very clever sense of humour, it won't be to everyone's taste but if you like a crime show or drama series with a bit of an edge this is for you.

Season 2 of Justified kicks off exactly where season 1 ended, with Raylan, Boyd and Ava fighting for their lives against assorted Miami and local "gun-thugs". The season proceeds with the two inter-related stories of Boyd trying to go straight, and Raylan reviving an old feud with the Bennett family, most notably their terrifying matriarch, Mags, who runs a variety of criminal activity, including the weed business, in Harlan County.
As with the first series this one is marked by a strong character driven narrative, spiced with sharp moments of violence. The script is often extremely funny and always highly literate. The dialogue could almost be Appalachian Sheridan or Shaw, though it probably more truly echoes a 19th Century American language, little changed since the Civil War. Raylan is very much a 19th Century figure: As his boss Art tells him, he is a lousy marshall, but a good lawman, guided more by a personal sense of honour than codified law. In this regard he is more like his old friend Boyd than he might care to admit.
In describing things one often seeks comparisons. However I can't think of anything else like this on television; perhaps if one could conceive of the movie Winter's Bone with jokes? It is out of the ordinary and brilliant.
