Product Description

The Paranormal Romance Guild nominated Justice For Emily as one of 2011's best reads.

Rachael Merchant is on a cross country trip running from the tragic images of her last case that are embedded deep in her soul. She is a City of Phoenix Homicide Detective that is trying to deal with the freak show her life has become.

Three days ago, she was sitting in a hospital room with a man that had just murdered his three small children because he was angry his wife had left him. After making the arrest, she let the perpetrator know that when he got out of prison she was coming after him. He would not be able to hide from her. She left the hospital, went back to work and quit on the spot.

After a great deal of persuading, her captain convinced her that an indefinite leave of absence was in order instead of quitting. She went home, packed her bags and jumped in the car. With no destination in mind, she just drove.

Rachael found herself on the side of the road, unsure of where she was and on the phone with her partner. All she wanted to do was run as fast and as far as she could from the image of those three small babies with bullets in their bodies.

Officer Patrick Sheehan pulls in front of Rachael while she is bent over the hood of her car looking at a map. He overhears the conversation between Rachael and her partner and thanks fate for dropping a homicide detective right in his lap. His good friend, Emily, was murdered just days ago and Patrick knows who killed her, her husband and his boss, the Chief of Police of Brownwood, Texas.

Boyd Campbell has taken extreme measures to cover up his wife's murder but Patrick is going to do everything in his power to put this monster away. He doesn't care what he has to do or say to get this cop to stay and work this case. He needs her help and she is just going to have to deal with it. She could just blame fate for bringing her here when he needed her expertise. After all, the only important thing at the moment is getting Justice For Emily.

About the Author

My genre of choice is romance, contemporary and suspense, with a ghostly paranormal twist. In my life prior to becoming an author, I was a Legal Assistant/Office Manager for a wonderful local estate planning attorney (no criminals that I know of). Prior to that, I also worked my way up the ladder in a large corporation, from payroll clerk to supervising nine employees in operational accounting. When my children, Shandelle and Pilar, were small, I took a few years off to be a full-time mom and help my husband with his accounting work for his auto repair shop. After, Michael, my husband, sold his business, he changed professions and started working for a national construction company. Michael and I raised two beautiful, strong women so that’s who I write about. The women in my books are strong individuals that have moments of weakness and frailty to work through.

More About the Author

For more information about me and my books, please see my website at www.sandywolters.weebly.com.

I've been an avid reader for years. To my husband's dismay, I have bookshelves full of books, rooms full of books, boxes full of books. My cars have books in them. I just can't seem to get rid of them after I read them. You just never know when you will want to read it again, right?

About two years ago, my husband gave me the dream gift, a Kindle. It was love at first sight and my first foray into the world of ebooks. To say the least, I am a technologically challenged person but when a reader, such as I, is told that you can have the book you want to read in seconds, I'm going to do whatever it takes to learn how to use it as quickly as possible.

While I still have books everywhere, I no longer take ten or twelve books with me when I go on vacation. The only thing I need is my Kindle. It never leaves my purse.

My genre of choice is romance with a paranormal twist. My authors of choice are Diana Palmer, Iris Johansen, Catherine Coulter, Jill Gregory and of course, the queen, Nora Roberts. I am also very partial to Michael Connelly, who is not a romance author but damn that man can write!

In my life prior to becoming an author, I was a Legal Assistant/Office Manager for a wonderful local estate planning attorney (no criminals that I know of). Prior to that, I also worked my way up the ladder in a large corporation, from payroll clerk to supervising nine employees in operational accounting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Abuse cannot be ignored 29 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Emily Campbell's "suicide" seems suspicious to Deputy Patrick Sheehan, but when his boss orders the investigation closed without a proper examination of the evidence, the whole case starts to reek of "cover up". Enter Rachael Merchant, a Phoenix detective trying to escape the horror of her last case. Rachael and Patrick team up to solve the case and bring about Justice for Emily.

Romance, ghosts, spousal abuse, murder, and justice are woven into a compelling story. It has a strong message about an absolutely horrific subject matter, but includes a love story and enough humor to keep from being too dark and depressing. And the fact that the perpetrator is finally exposed, definitely has you cheering at the end. Sandy Wolters has done a great job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romantic paranormal thriller/suspense story - pick it up! 18 July 2011
By K. Sozaeva - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Emily Campbell was loved by everyone in Brownwood, TX. She always went out of her way to help anyone who needed help. When she is found dead by her husband by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Patrick Sheehan is the responding officer. Patrick is suspicious of the circumstances, and believes her death was a murder, and that the murderer was her husband. The problem is, her husband - Boyd Campbell - is the chief of police, and he makes sure that the death is listed as a suicide and covers everything up. While Patrick tries to come up with a way to investigate and bring about justice for Emily, he comes across a woman on the road, looking at a map. It is Rachael Merchant, a homicide detective from Phoenix, AZ. Patrick decides that he needs Rachael to help him investigate, but as he gets to know her, he falls in love with her. Will they be able to bring about justice for Emily?

This is a fairly short book - almost a novella - but it is very well-written and a complete story. The characters are well developed and the reader will be surprised as how much information is provided in such a short space of time - Sandy Wolters has managed to cut down the story to the essential elements without it appearing to have been cut at all. Fans of romantic thrillers and suspense should enjoy this story - even those who, like me, don't much care for romance. Definitely pick this one up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Men and a Lady...plus a Bird? 10 July 2011
By claude williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
How can you take a horrible subject, like spousal abuse and murder, and turn it into such an enjoyable read? The author ( Sandy L Wolters ) seems to have done just that with Justice For Emily...

The central character is a female detective named Rachael, who has such empathy for the victims of the crimes she investigates, that she has a hard time trusting men and having a life of her own. A pet bird named Critter fills the gap until the right man comes along..And come along he does in the person of Patrick, small town cop not up to the task of a questionable suicide of the Police Chief's wife.

Between the new boyfriend, the old boyfriend and an infatuated Asst. D.A they manage to unravel the details leading to the confession of the suspect. Throw in some ghost from the past to the mix and you have a most entertaining book.

I think we learn from this book that spousal abuse is a demeaning and unexcusable crime and if we even suspect anything, it is always alright to speak up, ask questions, the life you save could be someone near and dear to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Mix of Romantic Suspense and Paranormal Thrills! 3 April 2012
By Sarah B. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
If you like romantic suspense with a touch of the supernatural, you will absolutely love JUSTICE FOR EMILY! This story has it all: romantic tension, betrayal, deception, intense attraction, and, as the title implies, ultimately justice for Emily, a woman with a heartbreaking world of secrets she hides from the community she holds so dear.

From the moment he arrived on scene of Emily Campbell's suicide, Officer Patrick Sheehan knew something was wrong. Virtually every investigative tactic Chief Boyd Campbell had drilled into his officers was compromised, swept under the rug, and otherwise forgone in a rushed attempt to dispatch of his wife's body. Was it really to protect his innocent children from the brutal loss of their mother, or was there something more?

Detective Rachael Merchant's deep connection to her crime victims led to an extended break from her job as a homicide detective, but drove her straight into Patrick's life. Their happenstance meeting takes a surprising twist, giving the reader an unusual introduction to this remarkable woman who, with a bit of a paranormal encouragement, agrees to help Patrick solve the mystery of Emily's death.

The investigation carries surprising depth, further propelling the romantic elements of the story along with the unexpected involvement of Rachael's ex-love, an FBI agent whose torch for her burns bright and strong. The case takes several well-played twists before justice is served, finally leaving Emily--as well as the townsfolk--in peace.

JUSTICE FOR EMILY is the perfect blend of traditional suspense and paranormal thrills. If you enjoy an extra dose of the unexpected in your romantic suspense, look no further than this amazing book!

4.0 out of 5 stars A chilling read 21 Sep 2011
By Sylvia Massara - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This story has many elements: romance, humour, visits from a loved one who passed on, and the paranormal aspects that the heroine is blessed with and what protects her and makes her the strong and beautiful person she is. But the one aspect that jumped out at me and touched me deeply was the cold brutality that domestic abuse and violence invoked in the storyline. Straight away, my heart cried out for "justice"; justice for the character, Emily, and justice for all women in real life who are subjected to ANY type of abuse, whether it be physical, psychological, verbal or all three.

There is a strong message in this story that cannot be ignored, and that is that evil exists in many forms; but through the love of those who care, justice and healing is possible. Certainly, a chilling read from the "abuse" perspective, but an enjoyable read as a whole. Thank you, Sandy; you have tackled a very difficult issue and dealt with it beautifully.
