‘I am very flattered to be mentioned in it’ - Sir David Attenborough

Product Description

The Optimist’s Encyclopedia.

In this A-Z of all things nice, Steve Stack takes the reader on an alphabetical tour of the good things in life.

Trivial things such as dunking biscuits, drawing pictures in steamed up windows and the sound jelly makes.

Big important things like falling in love, Nobel Peace Prize winners and the Internet.

And pretty much everything in between from Lego to the shipping forecast, popping bubble wrap to meerkats with guest appearances from Sir David Attenborough, Oliver Postgate, Columbo and The Flaming Lips.

It Is Just You, Everything’s Not Shit is the perfect gift for the cynic in your life. It will cheer up even the most miserable of old gits.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely little dip in book 24 Aug 2008
By A. I. McCulloch TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover
I bought this as a jokey gift for someone who had given me one of the "Is It Just Me" books. I sneaked a read before passing it on (hands up anyone who doesn't do this) and was charmed.
It's a lovely little A-Z of things that make life a little bit better. You won't agree with all the selections, but it's an eclectic mix. Steve Stack has his finger on the pulse - Monkey, the BBC's Beijing Olympics hero is one of the selections. So are Internet communities which is heartening news for those of us who enjoy justifying our participation in them.
A smashing gift for anyone who is cynical and apt to offer a jaded view of things. This won't make you laugh out loud, but it will make you smile.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book guaranteed to make you smile 4 Nov 2007
Format:Hardcover
I've been randomly dipping into this book over the past few days and on every reading it has brought a smile to my face. Steve Stack's collection is full of all the simple, and often silly, things in life that can't fail to make you happy. The perfect antidote for the terminally miserable. Highly recommended reading for anyone who's had a bad day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Postive outlook 15 Feb 2013
By Blackie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's nice in a world where there is nothing but doom and gloom to read about minor, some may trivial things, that are important. Even if said item means nothing to you the author with his enthusiasm really sells it to you should feel positive towards that item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it Just me- or is this book so good? 4 Nov 2007
Format:Hardcover
An A-Z treat of things worth celebrating. Tightly written with a subtle undercurrent of humour, this book opens your eyes to the simplest things in life that are not crap. I read the book from cover -to-cover but it lends itself to a 'dip in' approach too. Even when you've read it, leave it lying around, revisiting each page is like meeting an old friend. A treat of a book and a perfect antidote to those whose glasses are half empty!

I wouldn't read it again. It's funny in places and probably true to a degree but I wouldn't recommend it.

I really enjoyed this short book. It is humorous without being too facetious. It acknowledged the fact that things aren't always good but that a lot is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice.
A short, sharp, shot of positive thinking which is the perfect pick me up when thoughts of death, hunger, war and Michael Gove's continued existence bring you down.
