I laughed loudly and often as I read this story for the first time. I am a fan of R.J. but I have to say I think I like this story about R.J. the most. I cracked up about Norma the Nose Picker and Rodney who could burp the alphabet - the kids I work with will love them. I can hear the eeewwwwwww's already. But the message about paying attention, asking for help and getting things finished is strong all the way through. Loved it.

I think it's good. A bit unpleasant to read about a child that picks his nose in a negative way - felt that it's teaching my child to judge people in a way I wouldn't suggest - but the point of the book was made clear and my son loved it.
I just wish the author had thought of her message all the way through. There is a way to describe distractions without complaining about other children in an unkind way.

This year I am teaching slightly younger children, some of who are not used to staying on task and perservering at an activity.

Kids just want to be grown up and never be told what to do. They think they already know everything. My 6 yr old is one of them. This books helps remind her that she needs to stay focused, and ask for help even when's she thinks she can do iron her own

HASH(0x9fd37738) out of 5 stars Good, but not quite what I wanted 25 Mar. 2013
By Mother of Two - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this to read with my 7 year old daughter. I like Julia Cook's books and this is good, but the story is mainly about his problems staying on task at school and I was hoping it would talk more about staying on task in the home environment (getting ready to for school, bed, etc.).

RJ is a unique character and my young students just love hearing about him and his adventures. I love this series of stories especially about staying on task and being focused. The students learned alot through this fun story.

HASH(0x9fd37a50) out of 5 stars Why are all the kids in Julia Cooks books Boys? 24 Mar. 2013
By Bubbles - Published on Amazon.com

I like the book and use it in my practice working in a school with primary age children. This is a bit more preachy and longer winded than some of Julia Cooks books- but a good addition to my library I use when I visit classrooms and teach social skills.
