Product Description

Country Kitchen

Big on Flavour and simplicity

Product Description

'Lindsey Bareham is one of those food writers - like Elizabeth Grigson before her - whose books have the power to change the way people cook and eat'. When Lindsey Bareham had her new kitchen installed, her normal cooking environment was turned upside down. Restricted to two rings, she had to approach cooking and food in a new way. The result is over 200 familiar and exotic recipes that can be cooked in just one pot. All the meals require minimum preparation and are made with easily attainable, seasonal ingredients. There are no fiddly restaurant-style techniques but the recipes include plenty of tricks to upgrade your daily meals. This book is concerned with cooking well without all the fuss and bother (and washing up!) and the recipes are written in a straightforward, helpful way making them achievable by anyone, even people with no confidence in cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just One Pot, 23 Nov 2004
By AJ (Bath, BAINES United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Just One Pot (Hardcover)
Invest in a huge pan, grab a handful of fresh herbs and some store cupboard goodies and as long as you've got this book, you're in for a treat. The recipes are quick to prepare, easy to follow and the ingredients just as simple to find. I've tried eight recipes so far and they all look like the pictures in the book and even taste good. Just using one pot to create a big family meal is wonderful. This is the first of Lindsay Bareham's books that I've tried and now it looks like I'll soon have a few more. Sorry to sound so enthusiastic but I just hate trying new recipes, then spending all day cooking something that all 5 children say yuk to.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cookbook you've been looking for, 7 Jan 2006
By N. Wood "Impatient" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Just One Pot (Hardcover)
I am a youngish, foody-ish sort with a moderate appetite and a tiring job. This book fits perfectly with each of these qualities. This book is very useful indeed.

I am always on the lookout for books without unnecessary frills; as it's often that the those I buy contain "julienne of roasted winter squash on a bed of wilted rocket" style fare along side the more appealing, more straightforward recipies.

Not here. Each appetizing recipe is approachable and uncomplicated. Just One Pot would definately appeal to folk that enjoy cooking but find it hard to remain kitchen-motivated after a typical working day. It would also be a great "first" cookbook for those who aspire to cook more but are intimidated by intricate recipies and complex methods.

Contained are also plenty of small serving recipies; which I'm sure would appeal to otehrs like me who haven't got a family of six to feed. I am often put off by the thought of creating mammoth quantities of grub, the majority of which will go off before it's eaten.

There are few books I have found that are this consistent and accessible, a worthy utility if ever there was one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring not off-putting, 5 Aug 2005
This review is from: Just One Pot (Hardcover)
I bought this book as a present for someone and ended up keeping it for myself! It has so many different kinds of recipe and none of the ones I've tried have been dificult. I find her notes about each recipe both interesting and helpful and have truly been encourage to make things I would never normally consider. A great book for anyone who has even the slightest interest in cooking - its a bit of a fib though cos not all the recipes take only one pot!
