Product Description

Joe Wright has a great dad, a fat hamster but no mum. Life has already been turned upside down, but the new rhythm is about to be broken. His problem is Wayne, the crazy friend he never chose. Also known as Slug, Wayne is an embarrassment and a liability - so different that bully Mark Hansome picks on him more than anyone else. School gets harder and more complicated, and when events reach a dramatic climax, Joe isn t sure he s brave enough for the role his mum would want him to play. But on and off the cricket pitch, Joe finds himself taking control. Joe s teenage cousin Rachel knows how Wayne feels, because she s a target too. As Fay and Ashleigh step up their hate campaign, she must learn to be tough. Rachel is skinny, but she s also fast. When late night running leads her into danger and front page headlines, Rachel is a local hero. But for a teenager in love, with a mother who worries about her and a dad she can t forgive, the drama isn t over yet ......JUST FOR ONE DAY is about courage, the kind that really counts.

About the Author

When she isn t writing or reading, Sue Hampton likes walking in the woods, going to art galleries, modern dance and watching great movies. She was inspired to write for young people by the pupils she taught and the work of Michael Morpurgo. Her first two novels for Pegasus, SPIRIT AND FIRE and VOICE OF THE ASPEN, are historical adventures, both published in 2007. Like the futuristic SHUTDOWN which followed, they are about loyalty, courage and real freedom.

A gentle, insightful novel that is written with a deep sense of understanding for the angst ridden teeanage soul. There is humour, realism and compassion and I hope it will touch young readers and perhaps be the angel on the shoulder for those that need one.

Fabulous! 21 Mar 2011
By 08wem
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent book and Sue shows pre-teens and teens life extremely well. The book is written so well and has so much feeling in there you feel as if you are part of the book, you feel the sadness and anger when Rachael has arguments with her mum, as many teenagers do and she describes exactly how many feel. You also feel truimph when Jo gets his own back on the school bully and that really is a fabulous ending!

A film in the making! 11 May 2009
Format:Paperback
Just for One Day - gripped me every day that I was reading it... had forgotten that wonderful feeling of not being able to wait to get into bed and get on with the next chapter. If this book is not made into a film, there is no justice! The heroes are just like millions of other youngsters, battling against prejudice, lack of self-esteem and, of course, that curse of all teenagers - embarrassment... Keep it up Sue, they just get better and better.
