Just One Day by Gayle Forman is a book I have wanted to read for quite a while, but only recently discovered was published in the UK. I believe I must have forgotten just how awesome a writer Forman is, because although I was excited to read it, I didn't expect it to be just so beautiful!

When good girl Allyson decides to ditch watching the RSC's production of Hamlet for an underground theatre group's cool interpretation of Twelfth Night after being given a flyer while in the queue, that's accident number one, and a decision that changes everything. It's after the production she meets Willem, Dutch traveler who goes wherever the wind takes him, letting accidents rule his decisions. When he offers to take Allyson - who he decides to call Lulu - to Paris for the day, she decides to be bold and say yes. What follows is an incredible day of discovering how freeing it is to just go with the flow and do things simply because you want to, and the wonders of love.

I cannot tell you how amazing this book is! I was expecting the whole book to be the one single day spent in Paris, but it's much more than that, and so much better for it. It's almost like three separate parts (though the book is told in two parts); the first being the day in Paris, and the other two being after. I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil it, but it's just so good! It tells two stories, the story of the romance between Allyson and Willem, but also Allyson's self-discovery.

The romance is so, so sweet. In a way, it feels like a fairy-tale; real life is suspended, and an adventure with a beautiful guy takes place instead.

I would recommend this book to anyone between the ages of 17 and 22, solely because it would be more relatable to said people. This was a fantastic read and I'm still thinking about it to this day (3 weeks after I read it). This is not a love story in my oppinion but a coming of age novel which I loved wholeheartedly, basically because of the empathy I felt for Allison throughout the book as she is the most relatable contemporary character I've ever read!!

Please pick this beautiful story up! You won't regret it and possibly come away from it with a valuable new outlook on life.

I love, loved, LOVED this book. I'm finding it hard to find another way to describe it other than 'wonderful'. I think more than anything this is a declaration about the romance of travelling. About 2 years ago I set off on my own adventure travelling across the US, and this book made me recall the romance of it. Of seeing wonderful new places of meeting incredible people. Of creating enchanting stories

Beautifully written, Just One Day is the story of a girl's awakening to the possibilities in the world. Allyson has very real fear of doing the unknown, going to unknown places until she meets Willem who encourages her to take chances, to see the world. What happens between them is equal parts beautiful and tragic, like a Shakespeare play itself. The voyage Allyson then goes on is filled with quirky characters who challenge her to be better, to find herself.

I loved this book, I will read the second book immediately!

It's very rare to come across a book that remains with you for a prolonged period of time after you turn the final page, but this book is one of the few that do. I was immediately captivated by the story and found the book impossible to put down. The notion of 'mistakes' has been in the back of my mind since finishing this book and I just cannot stop thinking about it.

I first heard of Just One Day on Goodreads. A friend was gushing about how she couldn't wait to get her hands on it, and how she knew she'd love it. I decided to check it out and thought it sounded okay. Nothing amazing, just a book I might eventually get around to reading. As time went on, I started to see more and more amazing reviews about it. When I recently discovered the Book Depository and it's free shipping I decided to give this book a go. And wow am I glad I did!

Just One Day is a very simple book in many aspects. It is simply about a boy and a girl who have just met deciding to spend a day together in Paris. Yet when reading it, it is so much more! It is a touching story of a girl finding the boy she loves and, more importantly, finding herself.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a contemporary read this much. I'm more of a dystopian/apocalyptic/fantasy fan. Yet this book managed to blow me away completely. I finished it the same day I started, which shows how I really and truly could not put this book down.

The book can be split into two parts. The one day they spent together and everything that happens after. I loved both these parts equally, though in different ways. The first part was utterly romantic, making me feel very jealous of these two not just for finding each other, but for doing it in Paris!

Slight spoilers ahead

The second part scared me off for a bit I will admit. I was getting a very New Moon feel from it until I understood the reason for Allyson's moping. It was not because she thought she was abandoned by Willem, though that may have been a small part of it. It was because she had found herself that one day with Willem and didn't know how to get her true self back.
