Reviews

Romantic comedy starring Lindsay Lohan. Ashley (Lohan) has always been the sort of girl fortune smiles upon - she's pretty, she has a great job, she has good friends, guys fall over themselves to ask her out, and she never has trouble getting a cab. Jake (Chris Pine), on the other hand, is not nearly so lucky - he's clumsy and accident prone, things never seem to go his way, and he's just lost his job at a bowling alley. However, these two opposites meet one night at a ritzy masquerade ball, and Ashley and Jake exchange an impulsive kiss as two shooting stars cross in the sky. Suddenly, they both find their luck taking a one hundred and eighty degree turn.

Just My Luck is directed by by Donald Petrie and written by I. Marlene King and Amy B. Harris. It stars Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine. Plot sees Lohan as Ashley, the luckiest girl in New York, who after kissing Jake (Pine,) the unluckiest man in New York, loses her luck to him.

Yeah it's pretty thin as a concept goes, two people, one lucky, the other not so, meet and their fortunes drastically change. Cue much larkery as Lohan's it girl suffers wave after wave of accidents while Pine becomes a big mover in the music world after discovering Brit guitar band McFly. The cynical amongst us would say this is just an excuse to promote McFly in America, but if one sets expectation level at medium then Just My Luck has enough romantic comedy froth to not waste the time of the undemanding viewer. Pine and Lohan actually make for an adorable couple, but sadly the romance is under developed by the writers and the culmination of their coupling is badly rushed. The comedy set-pieces are handled well enough, while McFly themselves have enough boyish charm to not let the "hard sell" get annoying.

Far from breathing new life into yet another role reversal comedy, Just My Luck is still, thanks largely to its two leads, engaging enough while it lasts. 6/10

I was really cynical before I watched this film, mainly because it had Lindsay Lohan in and recently she has had a lot of bad press, and the previous films she's been in haven't been that good. I was surprised how good she was, she was utterly convincing as the girl who had the world at her feet and then to find her luck had completley vanished and thus followed a series of embarassing events for her to try and get her luck back. She was convincing, she was also quite strong and had some life about her character that makes me want to care.
I haven't given this five stars simply because I think at times it had a little too much mushy romantic stuff you normally associate with American comedies...it really weakened the film and went all sloppy. A bit like a nice solid chocolate truffle that has melted into a gloopy pile. This is just my opinion, and maybe I do see things a little more cynically but I'm a British girl and that's just the way I think!.
Watch this on a night in with your friends, with chocolate truffles!

I got this film because McFly are in it. I have been a fan of theirs since the beginning (nearly 10 years) and when I found out they were going to be in a Hollywood movie I was super excited. Unfortunately I didn't see it in the cinema which I'm gutted about because I would love to see McFly on the big screen, but when it was released on DVD I got it straight away.

I am also a fan of Lyndsey Lohan. I'm not too impressed about her acting but I fell in love with her (not literally lol) when she was in Mean Girls. I haven't seen Chris Pine in a film before but I did like his acting.

There are a lot of funny moments in this film. I like the idea of two people - one with good luck and one with bad luck - swapping lives when they kiss.

Just how lucky can one person be and just how unlucky can another person be.This film gives us the answer with lots of humour and a romantic storyline thrown in.It's packed with engaging and likeable characters and
there isn't a dull moment in it.A feelgood film that is worth seeing more than once. There are lots of bonus features including two live performances of songs by the pop group McFly and interviews with the main actors and members of the production team.

I read the reviews of "Just my Luck" and they weren't great, but still, I had an 11 year old aching to see it. Only, it was hardly shown. I persuaded the local cinema manager to put it on for us one saturday at 10.30am. I turned up with a party of pre-teen girls and noted a few others made the effort and got out of bed too. They lapped it up.

A little better focus from the writers, removing poop references (minor but icky) taking itself more seriously and packaging it for the right audience this would have been a real success. Truth is, Lindsay Lohan holds it all together, some scenes entirely alone, managing both comedy and pathos - does she ever put in a poor performance? I've yet to see one: I've become a fan through my daughter. This is great fun for those little girls "in between", not quite so little, but nowhere near grown up.

......Oh yes, there was the bonus of the Jo Boxers opening track "Just got Lucky" which is enough to put anyone in a good mood.

Just My Luck (starring Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine) plays with the question of just how much does a person do to create their luck and how much of that good luck is a result of something else. Nonetheless, Lindsay Lohan plays a highly successful and sought after public relations representative/communications associate related who has the golden midas touch when it comes to the professional projects that she works on. As a result, she is living the good life in Manhattan. Jake (played by Chris Pine), on the other hand, is trying his hardest to change his life around for himself and a band that he helped promised to promote. A chance meeting at a New York party/event causes Ashley to unintentionally switch her good luck with Jake. Some examples of Ashley’s luck: ending up with a drycleaned dress that is worn by Sarah Jessica Parker (known for playing Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City) and she wins multiple scratch offs that she enters. There is much more to Just My Luck and is great for those who want to see public relations/communication job themed movies, Lindsay Lohan, or Chris Pine’s acting in action right less than a few years before he starred in the popular re-make of the Star Trek movie series.
