Such a shame that a fantastic talent puts money before quality but hey he isn't he first and won't be the last. Modern day pop production has the knack of making everyone sound like a clone, in fact you have to listen really hard to tell that this is Richie.
I cannot believe this is the same guy that delivered some of the best pop music of the 70's and early 80's. Even his most commercial numbers still had soul but you cannot say the same about this!
He should have saved himself the trouble and asked Akon to sing this as it doesn't require the vocal talent of a legend for the target audience its aimed at.
Its embarrassing to hear a guy his age trying to sound like a 20 something, these songs and lazy lyrics would have been consigned to the garbage as little as 20 years ago but in an age where your next door neighbour could be the next Britney I guess this is considered above average?
I'm not a Lionel Richie fan and have no other music by him but I saw him on Jonathan Ross last week and thought "hey why not". The album is excellent with the most beautiful lyrics coming clearly through the music. Very easy on the ear stuff xx
sounds very synthetic especially drum programming, most of tracks sound the same, wish Lionel wrote more tracks himself, and more live instruments. However overall the production is good, best track is the duet: face in the crowd.
Contrary to media reviews this CD does exactly what it says on the tin!! It is Lionel through and through!! A brave move to have all songs bar one (Eternity) written by established R&B lyricists instead of the man himself! Title track JUST GO is unmistakeably reminiscent of the previous two studio albums and is probably the weaker of a strong group of songs. The tracks that stand out are THINK OF YOU and SOMEWHERE IN LONDON with the enpowering duet FACE IN THE CROWD somehow reminds you of an upbeat ENDLESS LOVE. The last track on the album is ETERNITY and was penned by Lionel himself. This song does stand out above the others and seems to suit Lionels style more than any other track. In conclusion, this is a must buy for Lionels army of fans, but maybe next time, a few more tracks by Lionel himself wouldn't go amiss.
