I found this game addictive and have played it almost every day since (on Windows XP).
There is no instructions on how to play - the pace of the shot is judged by how long the left mouse key is held down, then let go to hit the cue ball. In the 'Options' menu it is best to leave the targeting trail on - this lines up a series of balls between cue ball, object ball and the pocket enabling easy judgement of the potting angle with positioning of the mouse. Holding down the CTRL key enables you to adjust where to hit the cue ball, although long pots are best played plain ball as using screw or follow through diminishes accuracy, and side is more difficult to use than on a real snooker table.
Although you can play against another person, I normally play against the computer - which has a sliding bar to vary the computer's skill. Setting this slider to 'low' - the computer can hardly pot a ball, but on 'high' it will pot just about anything, shots which a human would find risky or refuse altogether. Initially on the 'high' mode I was always beaten heavily but on this game you have to change your style of play to win. The normal method of safety play - clip the reds and into the baulk area doesn't work as if there is a ball on, no matter how difficult the pot is, the computer will get it. I instead use 'containing safety' i.e nestle the cue ball into the pack, letting the computer break the reds open, and try to pot virtually every ball as it is difficult to get a ball safe.
Problems with this game are that unless you have 140 or more it is over on the pink, and sometimes it is not possible to see e.g a pocket when aiming for a double, or if the next red will pass another ball into a pocket.
With practise it is possible to clear the table regularly, my highest is 138 twice - 15 reds, 14 blacks, 1 blue & the colours - would be 145 but the computer ends the game on the pink if the maximum is not on. I'm no professional either, not having played for two years, although I've been a pool league player who won more than half my games, but my highest break on a full size snooker table was 25.
