Product Description

Danny Dyer (The Football Factory, The Busines), Craig Fairbrass (Rise of the Footsoldier, The Bank Job), Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers, Doomsday), Phil Davis (Dean Man Running), Steven Berkoff (The Krays) and Billy Murray (Rise of the Footsoldier) come together as one of the greatest British casts in recent memory. Dirty dealings, back-stabbing, insults, threats, blackmail and deception - it's all in a days work for this motley crew who have been assembled for a business venture more treacherous than any kind of criminal behaviour! As sparky fly, it's everyman for himself, take no prisoners and, hopefully, get out in one piece with reputation still in one mangled piece.

This really should have been much better, given the wealth of British acting talent appearing in it. The idea is a 'This Is Spinal Tap'-type spoof of the 'microbudget' end of the British film industry and you suspect that it's crammed full of in-jokes which are lost on the rest of us. You also suspect that it was one of those films that was much more fun to make than it is to watch.

Not that it's a total write-off: Roland Manookian strikes the right note of mock earnestness as the self-obsessed director, shadowed everywhere by a fawning Ciaran Griffiths (best known as Mickey Maguire in Shameless). Danny Dyer is quite funny doing 'posh'. Unfortunately, the guy playing the cross-eyed, useless writer (whose name escapes me) gives a performance so utterly lacking in subtlety that it kills the whole film and - irony upon irony - the script is frankly pretty lame too.

What is undeniably hilarious, though, is the desperate way the distributors have given this an utterly misleading cover and made it look like a British gangster film, with a blurb to match. Even the fake film-within-a-film has nothing to do with gangsters. You're fooling no one, guys! You can, in fact, reverse the DVD cover and get the original packaging instead, if you like. This, reminiscent of the way Mad magazine and Krazy comic used to provide handy back-cover 'disguises' so that others couldn't tell you were reading them, is the funniest (and, of course, most ironic) thing about the whole project.

This is a film, about making a film. I'd write more but after 15 minutes I switched it off.
Crap.

pointless
In agreement with a previous reviewer, I only managed 20 minutes too and it's very rare I switch a film off, however bad or boring it seems.

A huge waste of time!
This film is full of some of the best Brtish actors in my opinion...which pretty much has all the big movers and shakers from a lot of the recent gangland style films. Read more

Turned off this film after just 20 mins. Cannot see the point! Danny Dyer has made some cracking films but this is NOT one of them. Awful!
