5.0 out of 5 stars Nederbeat belter 8 Sep 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
1st Earrings album from 65.
A corker of an album for fans of 60s beat.
Great beaty sound,no fuzz boxes or the like, just those lovely old semi-accoustic guitars cranked up through those lovely valve amps with the rhythm guitars really up front in the mix, boomy bass drum and tight snare drum.
polished sound but with a harder edge than say,The Hollies.
Not quite freakbeat but sometimes delivered at breakneck pace.
I really believe the Dutch give the Brits a run for their money in this department,of course they have a sound of their own.
Great album that stands up to just about anything from the period.
Bonus tracks are excellent especially the last one "Smoking Cigarettes"which is obviously from a different session as it is dated 1966 and has a slightly mod soul flavour and it just sticks in your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Start of something really HUGE 17 April 2011
By Miles
Format:Audio CD
So...my experience with this amazing band started when a friend played an LP called Eight Miles High when I was in my second year of High school in 1972....I was so impressed that after 39 years I am just as impressed with the band now in 2011. That friend had another possession that am also still into...audio gear, he had a Marantz 1060 intergrated amp. After Moontan came out I was hooked big time. To me...just my opinion...Golden Earring is actually the greatest Rock band as far as consistantly good musical output. I much prefer them over The Stones. Don't get me wrong now, I have great respect for the Stones and all but to me after the Mick Taylor years I just can't get into more than one or two songs on each release that the Stones have put out, while I truely enjoy every song Golden Earring has done since day one.George Kooymans and Rinus Gerritson have been writing songs together longer than the Jagger/Richards duo and I'm not one to base an opinion solely on the amount of records sold but by the likeable content of the output...to each his own...In 1999 I picked up on the Euro only release of 3 Originals, which is the first three Earring releases on two Compact discs and 13 bonus tracks so this is not the first time this release has been put out on CD but I'm hoping the remaster of the first three I just ordered here will sound even better. I also have the 18 Red Bullet reissues as well as everything else they have out I can get my hands on...which is most of the original vinyl relesed in the states..except I'm still trying to track down Just Earrings on vinyl! I do have 34 release on CD and 19 on vinyl...and I hear they are working on a new release for 2011...yeah! And actually the same four guys in Earring have been together since the lp Golden Earring ( Wall of Dolls ) which was in 1970 Ceaser joined in late 1969 ..cheers

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S ABOUT TIME 23 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
This record is making its very first appearance in Britain, although it came out in Holland in the mid 1960's. The bonus tracks are appropriate mono singles. Nice package and marvelous remastered sound. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless!! 29 Jun 2009
By Joseph Brando - Published on Amazon.com

The early music of "The Golden Earrings" is quite different from the band that would later morph into "Golden Earring". The lead singer here is Frans Krassenburg, personally I prefer his voice to Barry Hay. The best way I can describe this is moody and melodic but still packed with energy. If you like groups like "The Hollies" or "The Zombies", you will fall in love with this CD. I won't even try to point out stand-out tracks because I think they are all great. However, for whatever reason, the bonus track "Not To Find" is not to be found on this CD, even though it is listed here on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars the golden earrings first album + singles 29 Dec 2010
By specimen unknown - Published on Amazon.com

the golden earrings 1st album "just earrings" (1965), and their 2nd "winter harvest" (1966) are fantastic! essential beat! both albums with original singer/composer Frans Krassenburg....who left shortly after winter harvest. sounds absolutely nothing like their 70's-90's albums with barry hay! anyone into 60's freakbeat, garage pop, beat, etc will dig these early '65 - '66 albums. cool band! recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars The very first album! 7 Mar 2005
By G. Eggens - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is actually a re-release of the first ever Golden Earring(s) album, released somewhere in 1964/65.

Although I actually don't enjoy this vintage Earring stuff that much I can really recommend it to any Earring completist. My favourite periods of Earring music are early seventies, late seventies/early 80s and all of their 90s output up til now.

The sound on this first album is similar to the first British Invasion bands, including Beatles, Searchers and Hollies.

The bonus tracks are a mix of early singles & b-sides but very representative for that period of time.

The line up of the group already included George Kooymans and Rinus Gerritsen. Lead singer Frans Krassenburg left early 1967 and was replaced by Barry Hay and Cesar Zuiderwijk joined the Earring in 1970.
4.0 out of 5 stars Golden Earring Starting Off Strong In 1965. 19 Mar 2014
By Joeywoodburn - Published on Amazon.com

Golden Earring (formally known as The Golden Earrings from 63-69) never really got the respect they deserved, especially for being the longest running rock band of all time. Radar Love and Twilight Zone were their only 2 major hits. People often talk about Moontan, Cut and Switch but I've never heard anyone say that Just Earrings is one of their favorites. It has a similar sound to something around the mid '60s era such as The Hollies, Kinks or Rolling Stones. Their first 2 albums are really great, overlooked gems. Winter Harvest is a bit more pop-oriented and experimental where as Just Earrings has a rawer edge. It has a great amount of straight-forward rock (Now I Have, Nobody But You) and slower ballads (I Am A Fool, When People Talk). Just Earrings is a consistent debut even though it's not perfect. I personally like it the best out of their '60s records though and it's worth giving a try if you haven't yet.
