Liquid DOES seep inside the cute duckie 21 Sep 2011
By Bobby L - Published on Amazon.com

As I am not an expert on molds or how they thrive or are killed, or how harmful they may be to ingest in small amounts, I can't say how safe it is to use, but the duck DOES get liquid inside of it, and there is no way to get it out. I don't use this infuser anymore for a few reasons:

It's a little too small for the amount of tea I steep
It gets all brown around the duck and doesn't look as cute as when you first get it (this is not a deal breaker, I'm just saying...)
The liquid inside skeeves me.

My other infuser just broke, so I will use it for the next couple of days while I wait for a new one to arrive (the liquid inside skeeves me, but I guess not being able to have my tea today is worse!)

So, bottom line is, I didn't even consider buying this one again, and will not use this one as long as I have a working alternative.

Functional & Stylish 27 Mar 2011
By Fernanda Gomes - Published on Amazon.com
I was pleased with this infuser's performance. The duck floated nicely on the water's surface levely without capsizing (I used 1 tsp of loose tea leaves in the mesh insert). The food safe plastic is well constructed along the body of the duck. The section below the wings is only part that actually touches the steeping tea. Yes there are slight gaps in the head (probably to allow for the setting in of the seperate beak & eye pieces) but it never comes in contact with the tea and shouldn't be affected by washing either if you just rinse off the bottom half, so mildew should not be an issue.

I suspect the reviewer who gave this item one star (citing safety issues) is perhaps using the unit incorrectly, since placing an enclosed food safe plastic item on the surface of hot water for 2-6 minutes steeping time should not cause the eyes (located inch above the water line) to melt nor get water into the head.

This is a unique, cute & functional item, reasonably priced. It certainly enhanced my tea drinking experience and I plan to buy a few more as gifts.

Too cute! 2 Aug 2011

This ducky is absolutely adorable and the infuser holds a good amount of tea. However, the seal between the basket and the duck isn't as good as I would like and lets some leaves escape. Also, the duck has had a habit of tipping over, especially when you have a shallow cup.
