Book Description

On the surface, Raphael has everything he needs: good friends, a title, and membership to the decadent Hunt Club where forbidden pleasure can be had at a moments notice. Pretending is not what he wants. Expectations by family and friends keep his feelings for Lord Claymore at bay. When his best friend returns to London in a black mood, Rafe sets out to cheer him up and make Claymore’s upcoming birthday an event to remember.

Shaken and uneasy of his growing attraction to men, James has reached an uncomfortable crossroads in his well-ordered, respectable life. Plans to end his torment on his birthday are mere days away. However, his intention to explore forbidden passion just once comes unstuck. Can James follow through with his well-reasoned, sensible decision when a man who knows what he wants, needs him too?

A gay regency romance novella.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story 1 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
"Just a Dream" by Heather Boyd is a sensitively written and beautiful gay historical romance that centers around the at first plantonic friendship between Rafe and James. Boyd writes with great empathy and realistic ideas how this friendship can move forward into something else, given the time and prejudice and dangers involved.
The characters are well developed and the story moves at a realstic and perfectly timed pace.
Very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected, tender, and super sexy! 27 Jun. 2014
By Heather BookSavvyBabe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm going to be really honest here... I'm not the biggest M/M reader ever. I get concerned that the book will be too over-the-top for my tastes and pass on most M/M. But some of my good friends loved the book, so I had to give it a try too. I was wonderfully surprised, immersed in the story, and found I loved this boy on boy historical romance.

I think when I hear (or see) M/M, I automatically assume that the story will be erotica. Boy, did Heather Boyd prove me wrong. Just a Dream is a steamy read, but it is about romance. It's the romance of 2 friends finding comfort and love with each other. They automatically have many obstacles to overcome; living in Regency England, balancing the duties of their titles, and their own wants and proclivities.

James and Rafe each have their own struggle. James is ashamed of his desires and is determined to put himself out of his misery. Rafe has increasingly complicated family troubles and has never truly been happy. As best friends, Rafe and James are determined to be there for each other. As their relationship changes and romance increases, their future prospects change too.

Just a Dream is an overall wonderful story. As a novella, the story is a quick read, but Heather Boyd does a great job of addressing the issues in the time period, the characters and resolving the conflicts. I really just want more, so I can't wait to read the rest of the Hunt Club series and dive more into this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a Dream 16 Jun. 2014

Just a Dream is the first chance I have had to read Heather Boyd's male/male historical romance stories. I can not wait to read more of The Hunt Club Chronicles. Heather Boyd has a way of writing historical romance books that just completely pulls me into the story right away. No matter what genre this talented lady writes I've enjoyed it.

Just a Dream is a wonderful friends turn lovers story that also has a touch of drama and intrigue that kept me turning the pages quickly.

Raphael has always had deep feelings for his friend James. However he was afraid if he told James of his feeling it would ruin their friendship and perhaps get him in trouble. In this time frame same sex relationship were not only frowned upon, they were hanged for their feelings. WOW, I'm so glad as a society things have changed. I still think we have a way to go but I'm really glad that people are no punished so drastically and harshly for their feelings.

James too had feelings for Rafe but he was also afraid that telling him would ruin their friendship. When these two do finally confess their feelings things get a little on the steamy side. I always enjoy stories about friends that discover they have deeper feelings for each other. I love that they already share a deep connection and finding their love for each other just increases the bond that much more.

I don't want to tell you too much about the storyline, but there is a little bit of mystery to the storyline that I found interesting. I liked how the Hunt Club members step up to help Rafe solve the mystery.

Overall, this was just a great book and I can not wait to read the first three books in the series. I had no problem at all reading this book as a stand alone. So if you have not had the chance to read the other books in this series don't let that stop you. I don't think you would have any problem at all reading this as a stand alone either. However after reading this book, I know I want to read more.

As some of you may know Heather Boyd quickly became one of my favorite authors. I just love her work and honestly I just can not get enough. I will be anxiously awaiting her next release whether it is a historical romance or a male/male historical romance.

If you enjoy historical romances and male/male romance I think you should give this one a try. I think you will enjoy it.

I received the opportunity to read this book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Just a Dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Victorian M/M romance 10 Jun. 2014
By V. Rundell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Lord Raphael Norwich is gay. He entertains his desire within the confines of the exclusive Hunt Club, but he's still lonely, wishing for a constant lover. One evening he is interrupted from his ruminating by the arrival of a letter from his dearest friend, Lord James Claymore. Rafe has long harbored a secret affection for is best friend--not that he can do anything about it. Subtle touches and stolen glances are all that's available between them--James is (clearly) a confirmed heterosexual--or so Rafe believes.

James Claymore wants to spend his last days with his closest friend, checking off his bucket list before ending his life--and sparing his family the shame of his dishonor. See, James believes he desires men. A dreadfully shameful state for which the crime is hanging. A chance encounter with Rafe soon convinces James that his affections are actually quite amenably returned. Could this be? And, if Rafe and he can share their passion, is it necessary to end his life so soon?

While this is a coming-together (pun intended) story--there is no simple solution. At first. When it becomes clear that someone has scandalous designs on the early demise of both Rafe and his father, James is willing to take Rafe in--for his own safety...and pleasure. This allows further indulgence in their debauchery. And yet another crisis arrives in the form of James' unescorted sister and soon his mother from thier country estate--further complicating their ability to engage in trysts.

Some help from The Duke of Staines--who runs the Hunt Club and is privy to Rafe's preferences--secures both Rafe's health and his relationship with James. It's a well-paced romance with many firsts, for both James and Rafe. James learns that he can have all his heart's desire, and Rafe learns that he can have the love he always considered just a dream.

As a fourth book in the Hunt Club series, this is a standalone story with a complete romantic arc and full resolution. It is well-written and deliciously decadent. The language and evocative description within the book suits the period completely. Both James and Rafe are interesting characters, and the mystery behind Rafe's, and his father's, illness adds a unique twist that keeps the plot moving. It's a quick read with plenty of places to chuckle or sigh. Having these best buddies become lovers was a delight--particularly when it is such a crime to have beautiful men so despondant over the prospect of love.

I requested a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars..mostly because it's a serial 13 July 2014
By Christina Wade - Published on Amazon.com

3.5 stars

This was my first historical m/m book. I really liked the writing and the use of the old English terms (several of which I had to look up). I actually did some research on the subject...I did not know that homosexuality was punishable by death in England back then. The struggle the characters had to go through to protect them while living a fulfilling life was quite fascinating.

I'm not really fond of serials...they are too short for me and don't give the author enough time to establish characters and the story. It all feels very rushed. That being said I wouldn't mind reading the other novella about a couple of characters from this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Historical drama with interesting twists 12 July 2014

Interesting take on problem solving in the 1800s. I like the writing. The characters are engaging. My complaints are the story is too short and there needs some resolutions on several fronts.
