Product Description

Somewhere between the earthy and the ethereal, Sweet Billy Pilgrim scrape strings and tap away on laptops making beautiful things. Broken hearts and beaming smiles are littered in their wake, as two EPs have sold out and a Shifty Disco singles club release has set the web a murmur of impassioned search for supurlatives to match their art. Their own website has delivered a stunning 3,000 downloads of the non-album track 'Forget To Breathe' in just 3 weeks. David Sylvian is a fully paid up fan and has already enlisted Sweet Billy to remix 'The Heart Knows Better' for his Recent 'The Good Son…' album. Sweet Billy will launch the album at St. Olaves Church in London that has recently played host to Antony and the Johnsons and Sigur Ros. This will be followed by a UK tour through the autumn. A full press and radio campaign is underway. Expect continued coverage across the web. There will be an e-flyer to target everyone who has downloaded tracks from Sweet Billy's site, the Shifty Disco singles club and all switched on blogs and fanzines. What they are saying so far... "It's somewhere between 'Peace At Last' period Blue Nile, some twists of latter day King Crimson and a nudge of Elbow." Kelvin Hayles (Buzz Magazine) "…this is great songwriting and spellbinding arrangements, beautifully played and sung. Enchanting stuff, very highly recommended." (Boomkat) "What I will say is that 'Stars Spill Out Of Paper Cups' is by far the best single I have heard this year." Tasty Fanzine "I've already mentioned 'Stars Spill Out Of Paper Cups', but even though I already loved it then, it's only grown in my estimation since." Ian Mathers (Stylus Magazine)

Buy this album....a friend of mine had a promo copy and it blew me away. If you want an album that grows with every listen, an album that you find more to listen to with every play Sweet Billy delivers in spades. It really is a masterpiece of a debut album.
I 've heard there is a big buzz around this band and seriously I cannot wait to catch them live. If you like Neil Young,James Yorkston, Tom Waits,Adem,Wilco,Sufjan Stevens, Scott Walker then you will find much to pin point here. These are beautiful crafted hushed hymns to silence and emotion..look no further ...this really will be your find of the year.

One of the few albums of 2005 that is virtually flawless, poignant lyrics, every sound in complete harmony with the distinct vocals from Tim Elsenburg, ranging from the joyous 'Stars Spill out of Cups' to the more introspective 'Experience'. The whole album feels totally complete, the tracks are individual and yet cohesive, with a very intimate feel which is also presented with the packaging.
With certain sounds reminiscent of Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine & Efterklang the album still manages to present a band which is original, pioneering, a joy to listen to and in a musical league of its own.

I bought this after buying Twice Born Men first. It's a bit different to that album, but still has the same charm and strong song writing of the second.

I've been trying to write this review for ages playing around with various descriptive words and phrases but it defies my wordsmithery to adequately state in any useful prose what or who it sounds like, except of course that is sounds like Sweet Billy Pilgrim.

So, my suggestion is to listen to the samples on Amazon and if you think you like his voice then buy the album. Don't trust the sample as to whether you like the song though because the songs twist and twirl like a dervish, rendering the sample almost useless as a guide to the song it's pertinent to.

My best advice is to buy them both at the same time and put aside an afternoon to immerse yourself fully. Only then will you be able to give yourself a chance to take it all in.

I came to this group when a free version of Crown and Treaty was offered on their site. Since then, I can't get enough of their music.
This album is such a joy - possibly too quiet for some, but to me it's ideal. Very thoughtful, well played and always something "new" to hear!

I lost my album in a house move and just bought it again recently. It is even better than I remember. The entire album is a masterpiece, only topped my their Twice Born Men album. I urge everyone to purchase this album to listen to a band at the height of their musical powers. An enjoyment from the first note to the last.

Having just launched their 2nd album it's worth remembering Sweet Billy Pilgrims debut offering. The album contains one of the best tracks I have personally heard in the last 10 years - "stars spill out of paper cups"

Buy it - you will not be disappointed.
