The story of Chic Murray deserves to be told: the testament of many household names recorded in the final part of the boook confirm this. Some are from people who new him directly, some indirectly and some who never met him but knew of him. All agree that the humour of Chic Murray has left a mark on their lives. Chic Murray can be considered the first zany commedian - all of his wit and humour are based on his ability to keenly observe life going on around him. Sadly her never quite achieved the equivalent status of today's idea of a celebrity and there is considerable pathos in his life story. There is a considerable amount of his side-splitting stage material peppered throughout the book. Well worth a read.

This is a blissfully funny, celebratory book about the life, work and japes of Scotland`s funniest comedian and, surely, one of the funniest men who ever lived, who would have split sides in any era.
Chic Murray was known as the Tall Droll, and was a `comedian`s comedian`. Stories abound here of fellow comics and actors in hysterics in his company, but the joy of this generously illustrated tome is the number of Chic`s verbally tortuous, gloriously inconsequential routines that are reproduced. They tend to begin, innocuously enough, with a phrase such as "I was walking down the street the other day..." What happens next is what should have you falling about.
I sat in a well-known coffeehouse with my copy, trying hard not to splutter into my mocha. He was a very very funny man. A sort of Scottish cross between Eric Morecambe (height, mock-surprise), Tommy Cooper (mundane banter to uproarious effect) and WC Fields (a certain defiant misogyny, if only onstage) - though comparisons hardly begin to do him justice.
I admit it helps a lot if you`ve seen, or only heard, the great man before reading this. If you have, then herein are guffaws galore.

I bought this as a Xmas stocking filler for my husband ... Price was fantastic as was service from seller ..... The book was well received by my husband ... Until he started reading it !!!!
From then on I had to listen to excerpts of it being read out, in between bouts of laughter and my dear hubby trying to recite the antics of the genius Chic Murray ....
A resounding success as a gift and worth every penny ... The book has since been read by 4 other relatives , all with the same results :)
